I have personal proof that messing with a (large) bald faced hornets nest is not necessarily fatal. It certainly feels like it could be, ought to be, and with the lumping up and discoloration if you lie still people would probably think you are dead but absent a severe allergic reaction it is just horribly painful and instructive.
