After congratulating the England women’s team on their victory over Germany in the Euro 2022 final, famous broadcaster and former player Gary Lineker incited a furious debate on social media.
The former England captain praised the England Lionesses’ surprising victory in the Women’s UEFA Euro 2022 final on Sunday on Twitter. By being the first England team to ever win the European Championships, the Lionesses created history.
Additionally, it became the nation’s first significant football triumph since winning the World Cup in 1966 against the same opposition.
The 61-year-old rephrased a well-known saying he had previously given during the World Cup three decades ago in honor of the Lionesses in 2022 when he posted it on Twitter today.
“Football is a simple game. 22 women chase a ball for 90 minutes and, at the end, England actually win. Congratulations @lionesses. Fabulous.”
The perpetually aggrieved trotted out of the woodwork to pig pile Lineker, saying he belittled the women, not knowing that he famously said decades ago-
“Football is a simple game. 22 men chase a ball for 90 minutes and at the end, the Germans always win.”
No apologies from the woke mob as of yet.
Was it the “women”, or was it the “chase” part?

I don’t even like soccer, but I did watch the game just for fun. The England men’s team(Lions) & their fans are very much like Cubs fans here in America. Always saying “just wait until next year, then we’ll bring it(World Series) home”. Well, those ladies went onto the pitch & they by God “brought it home”. The minute the whistle blew at the end of extra time, the roar of approval from the crowd at Wembley was amazing. The entire nation was rooting for them & not ONE of them ever claimed victimhood or being oppressed by the evil white man. They had one job & they did it with class & dignity. The spoiled athletes over here could take a lesson from the Lioness team. It also didn’t hurt that the young lady(Chloe Kelly) who scored the winning goal is quite the stunner. I, for one, am very glad for them.
