For the first time, one of the US military services is being led by a woman. Admiral Linda Fagan took control of the Coast Guard on Wednesday, reports ABC News. Fagan, who became the service’s first female admiral last year, previously served as second in command, per Military.com. “It’s about time,” President Biden said in remarks at the ceremony. Fagan, for her part, said she was “immensely grateful to the many players that paved the way” for the milestone.

The New York Times described it as the shattering of “one of the last glass ceilings in the military.” Its profile notes that Fagan graduated from the Coast Guard Academy in 1985, part of what was only the sixth class to include women. Despite the honor, Fagan won’t technically be part of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. As Military.com notes, the Coast Guard leader is considered a “de facto” member of that group and is without full voting rights. Among those watching the honors on Wednesday: Fagan’s daughter, Aileen, who is a Coast Guard lieutenant.

  14. Some 30 years ago my sister (who was in the USAF) was up for promotion to LCol.
    I asked her if she’d get it.
    She replied: “If they need a female in that position.”

    Shit’s been going on a long time.

I was on the USS Lake Erie off the coast of Somalia in 1995 , part of operation united shield , evacuating UN peacekeepers , not during 1993- Blackhawk down timeline , my bad . Hate getting old , it was hot and boring . No stolen valor…just early onset of Alzheimer’s , or Jim Beam brain cell loss . I stand corrected .

  22. Somewhere out there is a Coast Guard Helicopter pilot with a thousand hours of performing rescues at night during storms who is considered a God. Those who know him would follow him anywhere. In spite of the fact he graduated from the Academy with honors, he was passed over. Guess what that did to the morale of 99% of the troops…

Looks like hes in the initial stages of creating a catastrophic hyper-inflation in the Western Economies, not to mention causing the total destruction of the indispensable country called Ukraine, which OBTW, never existed until the USSR collapsed in 1992

    But its all for the “rules based international order” (snorf!) .. the one that mandates that the western part of any country MUST have the freedom to brutalize and murder the eastern half

    Besides, if Russia succeeds in its military ops in a place that is closer to Western China than it is to England. whats to stop this “totally overrated, baby raping army” from rolling all the way to the English Channel

  31. No other country in the history of *peoplekind* has ever gotten less bang for the buck from their incredibly expensive military than the US because a society that rejects masculinity can’t win a war against jack fucking shit. For reference, recall Iran and Afghanistan.
