Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s tweet flagged for saying Trump has to prove his innocence

Just The News: Former Democrat House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had a tweet flagged that stated that former President Donald Trump would have to prove his innocence in court.

“The Grand Jury has acted upon the facts and the law,” Pelosi wrote on Twitter. “No one is above the law, and everyone has the right to a trial to prove innocence. Hopefully, the former President will peacefully respect the system, which grants him that right.”

The tweet was flagged for more context. An advisory attached to her tweet, according to the Washington Times, stated “Ms. Pelosi mistakenly says that Trump can prove his innocence at trial. Law in the US assumes the innocence of a defendant and the prosecution must prove guilt for a conviction.”

A Manhattan grand jury voted to indict former President Donald Trump this week over his alleged role in a payment to Stormy Daniels in 2016, making him the first former president to face criminal charges.

According to Trump spokeswoman Liz Harrington, the 45th president plans to face the charges and keep campaigning.

“He will fight this all the way, but he’s not going to stop his campaign,” Harrington told the “Just the News, No Noise” TV show. “He’s not going to stop running for the American people and getting his message out.”

  2. It’s not the task of the defendant to prove innocence: it’s the task of the plaintiff to prove guilt. I can explain it to you, Nancy, but unfortunately I can’t understand it for you.

  3. Sniffer Joe is not the only combination senile/stupid/evil politician in DC.

A defendant having to prove his/her innocence is, I believe, right out of the Bolshevik/USSR/Stalinist brand of “justice”. Either that or it’s from “1984”.

I doubt if it was a slip of the tongue…she really meant it.

  4. Not the first time she and other top democrats said authoritarian stuff like that.
If you remember the garbage they spew during Trump’s first impeachment, where they insisted that he had no rights since that was not a court, and before that they said if he had done nothing then he has nothing to fear from referring to Mueller and his band of angry democrat procedures losers, who were not investigating crimes that happened, but looking for a crime.
