Gimme a T, an R, an I, a P

A cheerleading coach has been fired for allegedly tripping a rival cheerleader for crossing the half court line, a violation.

This is not a “big story.” I’m posting it because she was fired based on low resolution surveillance video. See HERE.

After her firing a high resolution video emerged and some people started to change their minds. See the new video after the jump and play armchair quarterback. Does the new video make a difference?

  1. if she didn’t see that cheerleader coming, I wouldn’t trust her to cross the street by herself…. she saw her…. & there’s no reason for Cheer Nazi to be goose-stepping onto the floor, when the team’s about to resume play, in the first place.

…that being said, she seems to be a typical Cheerleader/Beauty Pageant/Sports Nazi that thinks she rules the place …
“It’s all about me & my rules. I made the most money at last year’s bake sale. How dare you tumble on my side, you little hussy!”

  2. I agree … the ‘coach’ did not trip or hurt the girl … that being said, it wasn’t for lack of trying…. she was obviously trying to get in the cheerleaders way.
in the hi-rez vid, the ‘coach’ angles towards the oncoming cheerleader & at the last second ‘innocently’ pivots to her right avoid a full collision… she just didn’t make it in time to block the girl…. the real proof is in the lo-rez where the ‘coach’, after yelling & pointing the cheerleader to the other side, walks back to her side, raising her arms triumphantly

  3. It honestly looked to me like she stuck her foot out to block the girl (maybe as a reflex action, who knows), then realized what she was doing and pulled her foot back to avoid contact. Whether or not that merits firing, I dunno, but there was no actual tripping.

Whatever happened to the old reprimand and an apology remedy, anyway?

  4. I posted this not because of the actual content, but as an exercise about how opinions can change based on what you think you for sure saw in a grainy video.

It applies to police videos and much more important cases.

I thought in the first video it looked like she was trying to trip the girl.
In the second video it looks like she loses her balance.
    Interesting.

Keep in mind, the woman is a spotter. She is supposed to be out there.

Also, there was a brawl between these 2 schools and the rules about going over the half court was big issue.
