Country group Lady A, which dropped the word “Antebellum,” from their name because of the word’s ties to slavery, has filed a lawsuit against a Black singer who has performed as Lady A for years.
The Grammy-winning vocal group filed the lawsuit on Wednesday in federal court after negotiations with Anita White broke down in recent weeks. Anita White wanted 10 million dollars from the group. Up until that point, they were trying to work with her and they do have a trademark (or whatever the legal term is) on the name. She is now declaring they have “white privilege.” I am not a fan of Lady Antebellum but I am on the side of the legality of their claim. They are not asking for any money from her. So, why are they the “bad guys” in all this? I do agree the “optics” (hate that term) are bad but…
May I offer an alternative name? How about The Raunchy Sluts. It seems to be suitable.
Both parties need free helicopter rides.

I read the article. That black blues lady has been using the name Lady A for many years. The white group has not. The black lady owns it, IMO.
There are millions of other names the white group could use, that make no more sense than Lady Antebellum.
Lady Aftershave
Lady Madonna’s Armpits
Lady Anti-Belly
etc.
They could have kept Lady Antebellum anyway for all I care. The word has nothing to do with slavery, and I have never to my knowledge ever heard any of their songs. The group is invisible to me.
If they trademarked ‘Lady A’ for merchandise in 2010, they still didn’t CALL
the group that officially. But why didn’t they research the name first? Now, they want to be officially Lady A, well, there’s already one in Seattle. Again, the jazz singer had already released albums and so why didn’t that come up on Antebellum’s lawyer’s radar? Because she’s too small to give a shit about? Well, how small does she look NOW? LOL.
If Lady Antebellum wasn’t so woke, no one would be talking about this.
