Former Vice President Joe Biden slipped into using a Southern accent while addressing supporters after a resounding win in the South Carolina primary.

When Obama tried to sound black, he always sounded more like a southern white guy to me.
Just an observation about picking up accents.
I worked for a company and did lots of phone work with dealers throughout the mid-west and the. Some of the people in southern Indiana had very pronounced southern accents, and when I spoke with them, it was almost certain I would pick up the cadence within a few minutes. I wasn’t “putting on” anything, it is, rather, an ease of mirroring, just as we do with physical mirroring with people in person.
