The Navy is providing Fenix 3 watches to those who fly F/A-18 Hornet and E/A-18 Growlers so that they have a better warning system for low oxygen in the cockpit. A recent study conducted by the Navy has documented a number of “cockpit” episodes caused by “hypoxia-like” events that have occurred in these combat aircraft along with the T-45 Goshawk trainers.
While the aircraft have warning systems, the Navy believes they are not as effective as the Fenix 3s.

I mean isn’t that the KEY at the END of the DAY is for everybody to have BUY IN to whatever ORGanization it is.

At least they are using some commons sense, to address the danger while they hopefully track down and correct the underlying cause.
My son was a forward observer. His first phone call back home from Afghanistan was to ask us to ship him a “Garmin” GPS system to double check the one the Army issued him, just to be sure before he called in rounds. Due to the long approval process the civilian Garmin is apparently far more advanced.

I was a forward observer in Vietnam.
All we had was a map, a compass and a PRC-25 radio.
GPS and lasers would have been a God-send.

I use a 4 gas personal monitor at work that would be better than a wrist mounted gadget. It does O2 and is Life Safety rated. About the size of a pack of cigarettes, and will run all day. Industrial Scientific MX-4. I think they are less than a grand these days.
They are less than 3K a piece, that’s easy aquisition.
The quad gas analyzers are a nice tool that the Submarines use
as a backup check as they have a changing atmospheric pressure model.
As long as the Garmins are calibrated to scale partial pressure
mixed gasses in a pressurized compartment they are probably much more
accurate. It’s a good secondary alarm.
We used to use a parrot in a cage back in the day
I seem to recall watching a news report and pilot interviews that it was the F-22 raptor with this problem. Hornets too?
