I see this as unnecessary risk

This is the state of affairs in America today. It’s made me very cynical.

I watch a video about a good-natured gesture by the police and I’m thinking, “c’mon dude, watch out for that passenger.”

  1. I’m with you and Loco on this, Fur. That whole scene got my palms all sweaty. It seemed a bit confrontational and with the wrong people, could have had a terrible conclusion.

Ice cream cone vs a 9mm is not a fair fight.

  2. That made me cringe. I would never have taken part in that. Are they randomly doing a traffic stop without probable cause? There are better ways to develop goodwill…

  3. Did you see the cop was very fucking wary approaching the window?

Totally unnecessary. Now I don’t know whats happening in Halifax, wherever that is but why in the hell do something like this?

    Sheesh

  4. I hope he had a legitimate reason for the traffic stop. If not, it’s an unlawful detention. He, and the department(city) could face a lawsuit if they do(did) this the wrong person, like a lawyer or politician or community organizer.

  5. Police FINALLY starting to be PEACE officers, instead of law enforcement officers, which is nothing more writing a bazillion tickets to help mayors balance city budgets.

Should’ve done stuff like this decades ago.

  6. El Paso tried doing something like this a few years back. They would pull you over because you had a good driving record and give you a voucher/coupon for something. I don’t know what it was; I always got a ticket instead.

This backfired quickly. People don’t like being stopped for no reason. People complained and had that stopped. It was unwanted and wasted people’s time.

  7. If the cops were smart, they would only pull over legitimate offenders (minor offenses only, of course – e.g., failure to signal for a turn, expired safety sticker, etc.) whom they could have given a ticket anyway. Then instead, give them a warning (“Please get that tail light bulb replaced ASAP”) and an ice cream bar. That eliminates the probable cause issue. Of course, they couldn’t run the program very long, because once people got wise, there’d be a plethora of minor offenders.

    Why, you ask?

Because some people will do anything for a Klondike bar.

    😛
