  1. When I was growing up, the fastest way to settle an argument was to find an example of that word being used in a book. Books did not contain mistakes; it was as simple as that.

    Now I’m seeing all sorts of misspellings, bad grammar, typos and the like in books published by major publishing houses. The funny thing is, I interviewed at ALL of these places (or their precursor entities, as many have merged) 35 years ago when I was looking for work as an editorial assistant. Despite the obvious credential of having double – majored in English and Latin at an Ivy League college, nobody would hire me.

    I would just love to look up all my interviewers and send them examples of these mistakes with a note asking them what they were thinking when they passed on hiring me.

  2. That’s just pathetic. A generation of fools who could care less about grammar, spelling or editorial standards and especially history. Huffington Post is notorious for awful errors in news stories and headlines.
