22 Comments on It’s Summer, Time for Some Surf Music
This was on my YouTube recommendations a day or two ago. Are we all getting the same recommended videos from YouTube?

Not too bad, played a lot of surf music back in the day. The whole picture looks good with plenty of reverb and the retro guitars, even decent Fender amps. Drummer is my favorite although a tall redhead works for me too.
This tune was a bit repetitive, and the solo wasn’t very impressive.

All they need is blue hair and they could be called The Smurferettes. Go go boots really, this isn’t the 60’s anymore.

The drummer is hot.

I liked the pies.

And to make it even more utterly ridiculous, why not add Marge Simpson, then they could be called Marge and The Smurferettes. Surfs up, baby, cowabunga dude. What’s next, are they going to bring back Josie and The Pussycats or worse the Archies.

I’m afraid of sharks.

Well at least they’re having fun cuz that’s not gonna chart!

Those vintage Gretsch drums with the almost impossible to find ‘Peacock’ Satin Flame wrap are way cool. I’m jealous. But the song sucks…

Every once in a blue moon XM’s 60’s radio channel 73 will play Surfer Joe. That’s where I heard it, I don’t really remember it from back in the 60’s.
They weren’t oppressed enough!

I’ve seen a number of their videos over the past few years including some of live performances. They also do music from back in the day. I could be mistaken, but I think they may be Canadian. Those outfits are done in fun, and they sure look better than what contemporary “acts” wear.
I made an interesting observation about 30 years ago. I had a CD that included obscure surf instrumentals and one the had obscure psychedelic instrumentals. You could sure tell they shared DNA.

I love Eddie Cochrane singing Summertime Blues, I always play it loud whenever I hear it. Brian Setzer also does a more rockabilly version of it as well, great stuff Maynard.
Sorry, I’m spoiled on Jr. Brown surf music. Check it out.

Thank you, Dr. Hambone I was trying to remember Jr. Brown’s name which I forgot. He plays some great surf music.
