Jesse Ventura for Governor of Minnesota – IOTW Report

Jesse Ventura for Governor of Minnesota

Election Night
Election Night, Minnesota 1998

Earlier, Fur posted a link (ICYMI – Trump Heckled On SNL) to a video of Donald Trump on SNL. The video was during the monologue when Trump was heckled by Larry David.

A comment by Corona, “10,000% thicker skin than The Precious Snowflake Princess in office now.”, made me think about something:

That’s what I used to think about Jesse Ventura (except for the reference to Obama).

Unless you lived in Minnesota during the election of Ventura, you would not know that he was much like Trump is now. He was “allowed” to participate in the debate with the R and D candidates. I’m sure they both approved, thinking that it would be a hoot to watch him make a fool of himself. Instead, he made a fool of both of them – and anyone who thought he was just an entertainer.

The beginning of the debate was snooze-worthy. Both front-runners opened their mouths and the same old tired blah blah blah. If you were a Republican, you thought the Republican made sense and visa verse for the D.

Then Jesse spoke. His plain talk about what needed to be done to fix Minnesota knocked me off my chair. It must have been the same for the majority of Minnesota voters. I’m sure the R and D candidates, media and leaders of each party woke from their comas and messed their panties. Here was someone who had the answer, said what we all were saying and couldn’t be pushed around.

Momentum started building and, whoa, was he ever vetted. His business dealings, his previous stint as a mayor of one of Minneapolis’ suburbs and his policies (both personal and political) were discussed incessantly. In all of this pre-election coverage, Jesse was resolute. He carried himself as a valid alternative to the tired lip-flapping political “nothing will change” two parties. His number one goal was to reign in the teachers union. He also broadened that to include other unions and any political organizations, rules and laws that were bleeding Minnesotans dry. Jesse ran as an Independent, beholding to no one and supported by a true grass-roots movement.

You all know what happened.

Coming back home from casting my vote for Jesse, I didn’t know who was going to win. None of us did – especially Jesse. But we were hopeful. We needed a change; someone who was strong and would do what he said he would do. The press didn’t like him, the leadership of both parties hated him and those supporting either of the other two candidates vilified him. Nothing seemed to faze him.

Jesse Ventura was declared the winner and the whole state fainted.

As the first few months passed, the state started to settle, Jesse started working; winning a few and losing a few. Then he started to tackle the Teachers Union issue. Negotiations started, lies and pressure built and the press turned into the rabid “destroy Ventura” agency they became. It wasn’t long before his own people turned against him. His composure and resolution also failed him as he tried to swat the negativity gnats surrounding everything he did. It didn’t just stop at his political life but leaked into his everyday life – public and private. His family was targeted and Jesse Ventura broke.

He held it somewhat together to finish his term and then he disappeared only to return as the freak of a man you see today.

Ask any Minnesotan who they voted for and you may find a few of us who will admit the truth.

——-

Why did I write this? NOT to compare the two men; Jesse Ventura and Donald Trump. They are different men at different times.

I am comparing the nature of the phenomena surrounding the two candidates. Unless you know the history and the ensuing phenomena of the candidacy of Jesse you will not understand why he was elected. At this time in Donald Trump’s candidacy, imagine Jesse Ventura as the candidate that ignited the hope and promise of a brighter future. We believed that he would give us a reason to hope that the next few years would see a growing sense of freedom and liberty from the increasing government intrusion into our lives. This phenomena galvanized support for Jesse during his candidacy.

The moral or lesson from this is that no one knows the future (except God). Anything can happen; people change for better or worse, opposition improves or fades, outside interest may interfere to change local, national or global events or maybe nothing happens and all goes as planned for one side or another. No one knows.

38 Comments on Jesse Ventura for Governor of Minnesota

  1. Don’t know the man. Is he a self made millionaire?
Is he a top business man?
    Or just a blowhard.
I like trump cause he understands the business world
    which I am part of.

  2. You are honestly going to compare Ventura to Trump? Trumps front and center because he, by design, makes calculated controversial statements that eventually ring true. If Venturas intellect is a one Trumps is 1000. You people of Minesota should have followed him before he ran for Gov.

  3. That was entirely voter fraud. Remember the “found” ballots in someone’s trunk? They also emptied the daycare centers for non-functioning adults whose ‘handlers’ voted for them. Many other examples, but the Democrat SOS ignored the proof and let the extra ballots count.

    Voter fraud.

  4. You should probably explain “unexplained fame”. They both had/ have a certain amount of fame. Ventura is famous because he’s a piece of shot coward that likes to sue widows of war Heros and was a dancer in a fake wrestling side show. Trumps famous because he’s rich and a winner at any cost. Did you vote for Ventura? That would explain a lot.

  5. You must not have read the whole article.

I stated “Why did I write this? NOT to compare the two men; Jesse Ventura and Donald Trump. They are different men at different times.

I was writing about the reaction that his candidacy had on the people of Minnesota.

That’s the only comparison I made.

  6. I think it is important to note one thing here, that being the media. It is common to see the media use their power to destroy a candidate, or elected official…wait, hang on… yet cover for a pet politician, such as the Øbamboozler, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, or Hillary Clinton. Until the dumb-down public stops letting the media lead them around by the nose (and their agenda) we will continue to decline. The only way out is thru education. The kind of education that teaches kids real math, real history, to use their heads, and patriotism with a pledge of allegience to the flag every morning. Bring back the Boy Scouts, manners and morals with real boys and real girls and get rid of the Liberal, mamby-pamby, communist-core horse-hockey! These grown-up red diaper babies had had a hell of a run for the past seven years. Now it’s time to run them and their divisionist chaos into the hills and let sanity take over!

  7. Most here understand the ‘warning’ that outliers rarely win & hardly ever win in Presidential Elections….Teddy R & the Bull Moose Party, John Anderson, George Wallace, Ross Perot…but once in a while a candidate comes along at the right moment & steals the show…..someone like…..oh, I don’t know…….Abe Lincoln
The differences between Trump & Ventura are much more than the similarities….Trump is working inside the system, Ventura was outside. Trump built a business empire, Ventura shot his mouth off & made claims about himself that turned out false. True, Trump denigrates opponents at times but Ventura bullied them. Ventura was& is all bombast. I’m sure his elementary school records are full of ‘doesn’t get along well with others’ comments. Trump is bombast, but he’s also the opposite of ‘doesn’t get along’.
The real question is not whether Trump is like Ventura…thankfully he’s not….it’s whether or not we (& the majority of the United States voters) are willing to support the eventual Republican nominee against the monstrosity of a future Fuhrer Hillary Let’s get real….It’s either going to be Trump, Carson, Rubio or Cruz….. who is best to defeat our future Jailer.
And who best to be the President that can save our nation.
Rubio will not. He’s in with the One Worlders. And, as much as I love the guy, I don’t see Carson as savior (& I’d love for him to prove me wrong). Cruz would be an excellent President, Attorney General, VP, Supreme Court Justice, but can he create the passion within the lo-fos to defeat Chairlady Mao? I’m hoping that Cruz might, I believe Trump can.

  8. I know what I wrote.

I was describing the reaction Minnesotans had to the candidacy of Ventura and how it appears to me like the reaction we have to Trump’s candidacy. They both brought/bring hope to people who are crying for our lost liberty.

If I had known the future, I would have voted for that stink-bomb Coleman (a D that flipped to R just to win elections).

  9. Well actually weak sister I read the article and here’s my point. There’s some here that are turning Cruz into a religion. The non comparison comparison is a good example. Why else we she write it a Funny? Nothing but the truth has been written here in rebuttal to the Cruz maniacs. We got Rimfire posting cheerleader shit non stop. The primaries are a ways away and right now it’s no secret I’m firmly in the Trump camp. Not because of the wall. Because I’m in manufacturing and if the man could renegotiate some of those bull shit trade deals and bring high paying blue collar jobs back here it would be awesome. Trumps walks the line. It’s certainly possible he could turn me. But the Cruz religious fanatics are making it tough for me to look his way. And oh yea Gunny, I suggest you go retread that article. Prett thin.

  10. By the way Gunny. That name implies you are or were a gunnery Sargent, My father in law was one. For the Marines. Died last year. Loved the guy like my own father. Fess up, you are a florist.

  11. Trump/Ventura= All MOUTH and a canary ass. Liberal Progtards both. Two dichotomies of equal irrelevance…

Trumps money won’t do anything for him ‘if’ elected, therefore he will be impotent with an arrogant mouth.

Ventura’s mouth is and continues to be arrogant and cowardly regardless of Kyle’s money that he sued for.

Can we EVER have a real conversation about the CONSTITUTION? I would bet a month of Sundays that neither of these two conceited blowhards have a concept beyond looking at their own image in the mirror.

  12. Guess I was a little wordy 😉 but… I believe that this is our absolute last chance to get our Constitution back. We need to be VERY particular as well as demanding, of a straightforward candidate in his/her not only articulation (words are cheap), but demonstrative actions of what our forefathers brought forth against greater odds that even a more generous God would allow.

Anything less (in my mind) is unacceptable.

  13. Here’s my view bro. Our candidate needs to be able to actually reach across party line in order to win. Very few can do that. Cruz can’t do that. If the economy comes back it will be much easier to push the conservative agenda. I think a lot of people underestimate how bad Obamanomics have actually hurt our country. Think about this, we have young voters that have never seen the prosperity that this country is capable of. And in my opinion there’s only one guy running that has the ability to get us back quick.

  14. Maybe in his words, but his actions are yet to be seen and thus far, well… Okay, I’ll say it. Where has he been the past 6 (+) years? You can’t say that this crap hasn’t affected him/his business during that time. Now, all of a sudden, it’s time for him to get on a soap box? Yes, you are right, I don’t trust him. I don’t take anything away from those that support him. I am stating my opinion as do others of opposite view. I see a Judas Goat.

He talks, but can he deliver. I’m not convinced no matter what the myriads of the deceived are convinced of.

I’m done with choosing the lesser of evils in an election.

  15. I understand your point, buddy, but I’m done with reaching across the isle. The democraptards have that technique patented. The conservatives start in the center and move left for a compromise to achieve a win. Democraps don’t do that. They start left and stay left to force the conservatives to come more left of center. It’s due time that we start right and stay right with no compromise. If not, the alternative is to start over.

  16. Well, you got me, Brad. I should have spelled it out.

“Unless you lived in Minnesota during the election of Ventura, you would not know that he was much like Trump is now.”

I was saying the campaign was the same – not taking him seriously. When the elites saw he wasn’t a fool, they messed their pants. He gave us a reason to hope our lot would improve.

  17. A long time ago, in a debate not too far away…

Host: Candidates do you believe in Issue?

Skippy (son of Hubert): Blablablabla (insert rest of Alex Lifeson’s Rush acceptance speech). After two minutes, Skip Humphrey did not answer the question.

Norm!: Blablablabla (insert rest of Alex Lifeson’s Rush acceptance speech). After two minutes, Norm Coleman did not answer the question.

    Jesse: Yes.

Host: Mr. Ventura, you still have a minute 55 to finish your answer.

Jesse: I don’t need 2 minutes to answer a yes no question, unless I had no intention of answering it, like my two opponents.

Game, set, match, governorship, Jesse. I also agree, his thin skin did him in.
