Detroit judge on her way to a church service was robbed in Lafayette Park Sunday morning near downtown, police said.
The judge, a 69-year-old woman, was waiting in her car in the 1500 block of Cherboneau Place around 8 a.m. when a man walked up to her vehicle and demanded her purse, DPD Officer Jennifer Moreno said.
“No firearm was seen but he did imply that he had one and threatened to shoot her,” Moreno said, adding that the judge complied and gave him her purse.
Moreno said the judge had a firearm in her purse, around $200 and other miscellaneous items like her keys. Moreno said the woman was not injured in the robbery. Police did not release the judge’s name.
The suspect is described as a black male, 6 feet, about 200 pounds and was wearing a white jacket with black pants.
!snip!
That narrows it down to anyone in Detroit.
ht/ rob e.
Really? The perp was wearing a white jacket after labor day? What’s Detroit coming to?
Seriously judge, why are you carrying a handgun if you are too frightened to use it? If it was locked and loaded, like it should be, you could have just pulled and shot the prick. This is proof that some people should not carry. Being an armed victim, SMH.
Maybe the thug would have been nice enough to wait while she got her war club out of the trunk.
Hand bag don’t gonna shoot.

Well that’ll narrow it down a bunch.
Guess what? A gun can shoot through a purse.
Hey Judge I heard those gun things make great paper weights. 😉
When you exercise your right to bear arms, you accept the responsibility to safeguard those arms from falling into the wrong hands. Nothing this story gives even a hint that this woman did anything at all to keep her gun from being taken by a criminal. Shame on her! I’d even go so far as to suggest this is grounds for censure if not impeachment.
Gee Wally, she didn’t shoot him cuz she didn’t wanna get charged with “racism”…
OR the judge shot someone and she wanted the gun ‘stolen’.
We’re talking about Detroit, after all.
Purses are targets of theft every day. Easiest thing to grab and go that there is in public. Why would anyone put their protection in the very object that is most likely to be yanked from you?
Everyone knows your valuables are right there. Bonus! A gun!
It’s truly the worst place to carry a gun.
Elections have consequences, Detroit.
Judgments have consequences, Judge.
The gun will do nothing for you if your situational awareness is already dead.
