Say what you want..BUT NASA and SPACE IS THE FUTURE! Oh and my son is going to the AF academy..then into NASA..Hoping he will be the first real Starship Commander!
Still ain’t found those pesky emails yet……..
Why cant they get closer with the camera to find out what the different colors are representing. Is the blue the water like on earth, etc.
Thanks for posting Hat
FW – According to the article the radiation would fry the camera if it was any closer
We just booked a cruise there for 2019!
Anybody claim to see evidence of aliens yet? Or is it too soon?
Just fyi, the images come back b&w. They are eventually colored artistically is my understanding.
Thomas, the color is much less artistic than you think. The data includes information on the light frequencies which is the used to digitally color enhance the pictures, other than making it pop a little bit the colors are accurate.
NASA processes the raw image data in B&W because B&W provides the highest available contrast for image analysis
“…pop a bit…” Manipulated like global warming data? Paint by numbers will not produce a Monet. I do appreciate the science behind all this, just my desire to see the unfilted, unedited version of things.
Sorry if that came out snarky, I did major in physics and astronomy before flunking out and joining the navy. I do appreciate the science. I want to see it.
So they’re following The Obelisk’s warning to attempt no landings on Europa.
Them fukkin musselmen are amazing, aren’t they?
They invented space travel, satellites, rockets, magic carpets, the computer, the question mark – Hell, everything that makes life more better!
izlamo delenda est …
The image sensors NASA uses on probes like this one are a bit different than the one in your phone camera. When they image a subject like this they are capturing data that includes reflectivity, emisivity , and absorption. This allows them to determine the makeup of the atmosphere, the temperatures, the concentrations of the chemical elements and their identities.
Then they hand that off to the folks that add a bit of fluff and buff for the PR shots like you see above.
Pretty, aren’t they?
So have they found the black monolith yet?
Jupiter is pretty, but nothing can beat Uranus.
Looks like Van Gogh painting.
Beautiful. What NASA was meant to do – explore space. May we eventually erase the Obama curse on NASA for good.

@Mighty Mojo
Pretty. And the winds/weather is insane.
Jupiter has some nifty moons, too.
That would be an awesome counter-top.
Ammonia atmosphere with 300 mph winds…
The Lord’s works are varied an wondrous
Nothing shows the Coriolis effect better than Jupiter.
Proof of global warming?
“Anybody claim to see evidence of aliens yet? Or is it too soon?”
Thirdtwin, No, but Shelia Jackson Lee wants a photo of the site where the astronauts planted the flag.
“Jupiter is pretty, but nothing can beat Uranus.”
You took the words right out of Larry the liberal douche’s mou.. I mean, ass.
If you need your vapors, Jupiter’s the place to get them.
……..McFartus? Heh heh heh.
@Ann Thracts ~ all the gas from Uranus ends up on Jupiter
… be careful lighting matches on Jupiter ….
(little tip from your Uncle Molon)
a billion for pics of a giant fart-ball …. nothing for a freakin’ wall … sigh
