It seems like these two cops are… not so good at their job. They escalated their own situation pretty quickly.
The reason they pulled him over? They said he had no visible tags on the back of his car. (He had a temporary license plate.)
Is that a reason to get out of their cars with guns drawn???
At one point the driver says, “I’m scared to get out of the car.”
The officer responds, “Yeah, you should be.”
WTF?
Cops have a tough job, for sure. But these two knuckleheads made it harder.
To be fair, the army officer was being a bit weird. It was almost ominous how he sat in the car, murmuring flatly. But that is not really against the law, is it?

Unless there is more to this story that the video doesn’t capture this looks like incompetent cops with too much power – didn’t feel the need to tell him why they were abusing him.

But they have no clue, they’re doing it wrong. This is the second set of loser cops I’ve seen in videos doing this. The first was in Salem Oregon.

I watched a brief video of a black cop describing the issues here.
The driver drove for a mile or so after the cop lights before being pulled over.
Therefore they treated the stop as a felony stop.

When the cops give the option A) I can let you go or B) I can charge you, it’s likely there is a pretty good case against the cops.
The reason the cops were drawing guns was he didn’t pull over for a mile and a half and the temporary tag wasn’t displayed properly (they couldn’t see it at all). The cops thinking was the car may have been stolen. The lieutenant’s reasoning for not pulling over right away was he wanted to pull over some place that was well lit, ie, safe.
The lieutenant didn’t try to evade the cops by driving erratically or speeding, there was no reason to think he was a criminal.
Heck, I was pulled over a few days ago for driving without plates (new car, I was actually on my way to get plates) and didn’t have any temp tag at all. Cop didn’t approach me with gun. Must be my privilege.
Anyhoo, I’m pretty sure it says in the rules of the road book that you pull over for a cop when it’s safe to do so, and that leaves things up to interpretation and discretion.
The part where they wanted to see his hands and take off his seatbelt at the same time with a gun in his face… well, I wouldn’t have reached for my seatbelt either, especially with a gun right next to me that the cop could have seen at the wrong time.
In the video it’s mentioned someone is a rookie on day 1 of the job… I think I heard that. Not sure which one it was.
Hope the lieutenant drills them.
All this “army officer” had to do was what he was told. It shouldn’t have been a problem for a guy in the army. He wasn’t complying with orders. I’m on the police side…

Those cops are a worst case scenario of law enforcement. The Lt. is lucky those incompetent assholes didn’t shoot him. The cops were hollering out contradictory orders. “Get your hands out the window, now”! “Get out of the vehicle, now!” How in the hell does a guy get out of his vehicle when his hands are out the window, he has his seatbelt on, and the doors are locked? As incompetent as those two assholes seemed, I wouldn’t be surprised if as soon as he brought his hands in to release the seatbelt and open the door they would opened fire on the guy. I hope he sues them and wins big, and part of winning is that he gets to pepper spray those two bastards every day until he gets tired of doing so.

The moment the cops didn’t see his hands they would’ve probably shot him. Unprofessional, panicky cop with a gun pointed at your face. Not a good situation.
It’s hard to defend you cops when you act like that. They’re either afraid, or they’re bullies. Either way, the public loses.
The Gangsta side shooting, looks stupid but even stupider when a nice hot ejected .45 goes up in the air and falls down the back of your neck and gives you a bit of a singe.
The only criticism I have of the Lt. was that he really should have stuck his hands out the window quickly to calm the 2 jackasses down. I understand fully why he pulled into a very well lit place though.

One of the coppers was black and he was much more aggressive. The white cop was the more reasonable one but just like parents they can’t appear to act differently from each other until the situation is over and they talk among themselves in the cruiser.
The two criminals pinned to badges were trying REAL HARD to create an excuse to murder this man. BOTH of them kept giving CONFLICTING ORDERS….specifically and LOUDLY stated was “SHOW US YOUR HANDS”….while they told him to get out of the car….which he couldn’t do because his seat belt was fastened. If he had reached in to unfasten it they would have BOTH emptied their guns into him….which is EXACTLY what they were wanting to do. BOTH of them need to be horsewhipped then hung for being sociopathic criminals with badges.

I don’t know. When a cop is behind me with his red and blues on, I pull over as soon as possible, I don’t drive over a mile and then pull over. When a cop told me (a long time ago) to put my hands out the window, I didn’t hesitate to do so. And when a cop told me to get out of the car, I did as he said. But that’s just me. Fat cop was right in one respect, soldier did make it “more difficult than it had to be”. He appeared to be under the influence of something.
Bottom Line: Don’t be wearing no cammo if you be black.

And unions will save these bad cops’ jobs. Get rid of the unions.

another site had a different perspective on this. The 2nd Louie was being non-compliant the whole time, mumbling on and on instead of complying with the two officers commands. I saw only one instance of contradictory commands, not a slew of them. AND IT TURNS OUT THE LT HAD A LOADED HANDGUN ON THE DRIVER’S SIDE FLOOR OF HIS CAR, WITHIN EASY REACH.
All I can say is he’s lucky he didn’t get a WoodShampoo(tm)
I’m still enraged. Carrying his sidearm on the floor is an appropriate place to put it, and no fricking way those cops could know whether it was loaded or not. Or even whether it was there before they drew their guns. It was nighttime, and the kid drove to the first lighted place to get off the road instead of just pull over in the dark. Absolutely legal. And the kid was dumbfounded about why he was being pulled over in the first place. And, in case you haven’t noticed, kid wasn’t being “belligerant”. He was simultaneously yelled at to show his hands and get out (impossible). And with regard to the “mumbling”, a confused young man who has done nothing wrong, is somehow supposed to know what to say or how to act (other than trying to be still and relatively quiet recognizing that the cops are afraid of him.)
STOP TRYING TO DEFEND COPS EVEN WHEN THEY ARE WRONG.
They shouldn;t have stopped him in the first place. They shouldn’t have approached him already belligerant (the cops, not the kid.) And then they should have backed the fuck off when they saw that it was an army officer.
