Macy’s is closing another 100 stores

CNNMoney: In a sign of how dramatically the retail shopping landscape is changing, Macy’s is closing 100 of its stores nationwide.

Macy’s (M) announced the closures Thursday. They represent about 15% of all Macy’s department stores. The iconic retailer did not disclose the locations of stores, but said most of them will be shut down in early 2017.

The Macy’s move is the latest in a wave of store closures amid the rise and success of Amazon(AMZN, Tech30) and other online shopping options.

For instance, Walmart (WMT)announced plans in January to shut down 269 stores this year andjust this week, inked a $3.3 billion deal to acquire Amazon rival Jet.com.

  1. When they dropped Trump ties, it became apparent they liked to support illegal border crossers more than law-abiding citizens so I cut up the Macy’s card and mailed them the pieces.
It’s a shame because Macy’s bought out May Company years ago and I liked our May stores.

  2. I don’t care about the company owners or whatever, but I do feel really bad for the employees, this is bad news imo. Plus, my mom loved to shop there… sad to see this happening to so many retail stores. I DO shop online most of the time, but that’s only because I don’t own a car. :/

  3. when the gay loving, illegal alien supporting and Trump bashing started at Macys, I swore I would never return and have not. The ONLY way to stop the liberal bias is to leave them with shoppers comprised of EBT cards only who could never afford their over-priced crap anyway.

  4. They had gays and transgenders being openly gay and whatever as they danced, gyrated and flaunted their sexuality during the Macy’s Thanksgiving day parade about 5 years ago. WTG you pandering pansies. Mess with our tradition, huh? They just tore down a huge landmark of a Macy’s store here in Bedford, NH. Rubble. GONE. I have to think there’s a correlation.

  5. this is our new business success formula don’t you know.

it’s easy, you hire a bunch of sniveling brats from ivy leagues schools to be the ceo’s and pay them an exorbitant amount even though they have never done anything to build up a business.
then when some progressive agitator targets the business for any unknown ridicules reason, the ceo knuckles to the demands of the progressive wacko, and eventually by trying to please everyone, they please no one and the business goes out of business.
then the whining sniveling ivy league ceo moves on to wreck another great American business.

    got it.

  6. I loved L.S. Ayers and always found what I was looking for there. When Macy’s bought the property, I tried to shop there three times. Never again. Found pants one time.

Department stores just aren’t what they used to be. Most everything people in a normal income bracket could purchase is crap made in China.

I long for the day when one could purchase a decent sweater at a store that isn’t either cheap cheesecloth crap nor is decent but costs 140 bucks. I have been shopping LL. Bean and Landsend online since Ayers left our area and I don’t buy their cashmere.

As far as I’m concerned, the entire humongous mall near me can turn back into prairie.
