Mother Arrested For Allowing 10-Year-Old Son to Get a Tattoo- She’d Been Better Off Allowing Him to Carve a Faux-Vagina Into His Body

Blaze-

The mother of a 10-year-old boy was arrested in Highland, New York, for allowing her son to get a permanent tattoo on his forearm.

Crystal Thomas was charged with endangering the welfare of a child after a school nurse discovered her son’s new tattoo, his name in large block letters, and reported it to school officials. Thomas faces up to one year in prison if convicted, and her two children were both taken away by child protective services. The tattoo artist was also arrested.

In New York, it is illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to get a tattoo, even with parental consent.

What is the reasoning? That a tattoo is possibly a regrettable choice? You can remove a tattoo, you can’t reattach your dick.

  1. “It is a permanent mark or a symbol you are putting on your body, and I don’t think kids under 18 have that kind of agency to make a decision,” says Dr. Cora Bruener, a pediatrician and professor at the University of Washington Medical Center’s Seattle Children’s Hospital, and author of guidance on tattoos for pediatricians, issued by the American Academy of Pediatric Medicine.”

Note: as far as I can tell the AAP is generally supportive of treatment (hormones, surgery, etc.) for transgender stuff. But I mostly looked at Wikipedia, so… 🙂

  2. Related: Yesterday I was at Big Chain grocery store picking up the ingredients for Julia Child’s Boeuf Bourguignon, which included a bottle of wine, of course. I’ve been recently watching season 1 of the “The French Chef”.

At check-out, the checker — a gentleman of about my own age — said I must provide picture I.D. in order to buy said wine. I looked him directly in the eyes and asked, “Do I look at all under age to you?” Being a gentleman, he didn’t respond directly, but I could see he agreed.

My driver’s licensed has been expired for months because I just haven’t got around to renewing it. Because of this, I was not allowed to buy the wine.

I then quipped, “I should have just shoplifted the bottle because you guys wouldn’t have done a thing about that.” This elicited a guffaw from the bagger and another knowing look from the checker. The “homeless” who live in their derelict motor homes (which the Seattle police will never ticket or remove) encircling the store steal freely all the beer, wine and booze they want at that store. I’ve seen ’em do it. But, by-jingo, they will strictly enforce their carding system for paying customers.

  3. AbigailAdams – Here’s how I would have handled it –
Checker: “You need to provide picture I.D. in order to buy wine”
Me: “No, you need to re-stock my groceries, I’m going to (the competition)” and walked out.
I’m in my 70s and can’t remember the last time I got carded. There is lots of competition out there – no need to put up with that silliness!

That is a tasty scary story.

Can you imagine what would happen if you had to go to the bank when your license was expired and in the middle of covid times the drivers license place hung closed signs, and you needed not wine, but your money from the bank in order to buy food.

And the Bank said . . . Sorry. Rules.

PS: Dried Juniper Berries, especially for games but boeuf too.

  5. TRF — Yes, that would have been the way to handle it. Unfortunately they were having a huge sale on beef chuck, too. Beef prices, being astronomical right now, I couldn’t pass that up. I had to pick the battle on that one.

The insidious thing about all this is, once again, those who are clearly within the law in making their purchases of alcohol are being inconvenienced. I suppose the best analogy is that legal gun buyers/owners suffer all the same kinds of crackdowns on those who use guns to commit crimes. TSA was born of the same stupid policies. Instead of going after the perps and those considered most likely, let’s punish everyone. And speaking of TSA and the so-called Patriot Act, why is there no longer any fuss about that intrusive gov’t enterprise?

  6. Frankly, I’ve never understood the need for picture I.D. I mean, here I am, standing right in front of the person and giving them cash for my purchase. My picture on a card doesn’t change the fact that I AM, that I exist. It’s sorta nuts if you think about it.

Back when we voted at the polling place, you had to produce your voter registration card (with no picture), and something that would corroborate your residency in the precinct, like a utility bill (just the address on it).

  7. …Based on recent info about this particular grocery chain (they just got sued for firing 2 Christian women after trying to make them wear the LBGTQ rainbow heart on their aprons), I think it’s highly likely their DEI training manuals insist that they must treat everyone equally or else!

What I might have said in response is that I am deeply, deeply insulted at not being given the dignity and honor accrued by my clearly visible senior age. I would have liked to see how they would wrestle with that. Truly. I think it would have been rather funny for me and painful for them to deal with my twisted accusation of bias on that basis.

    AbigailAdams,
    Interesting eh?
Oh by the way, the DL closure is real world history and No Money, So Sad, Too Bad was the official response.

No money, No Food sign up for free atm ebt at the other office not open either but a phone called reply said :

“Sorry, you don’t meet the requirements for free food because you have more than enough money in your Banking Records. Bye.”

No Money, No Food , Not in America???

What Bank and State or State and Bank would do such a thing?

    Wanna hear a story?
