New Trump Administration Rule Lets Officials Deny Green Cards to Immigrants Using Welfare Programs

Epoch Times:

The Trump administration issued a rule on Aug. 12 that lets U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services deny green cards to immigrants that would likely use welfare.

The 837-page plan applies to applications filed after Oct. 15 this year and is expected to affect approximately 400,000 annual applications.

The rule means a services officer reviewing an application will look at the applicant’s history of using welfare, such as food stamps, public housing assistance, and Medicaid.

“The principle driving it is an old American value, and that’s self-sufficiency,” U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Acting Director Ken Cuccinelli told Fox News. “It’s a core principle—the American Dream itself—and it’s one of the things that distinguishes us, and it’s central to the legal history in the U.S. back into the 1800s.”

“It will also have the long-term benefit of protecting taxpayers by ensuring people who are immigrating to this country don’t become public burdens, that they can stand on their own two feet, as immigrants in years past have done,” he added. “It’s not only a recipe for their success, but for America’s success growing out of our immigration system.”

The rule shifts guidance from 1999, which advised immigration officials not to take reliance on public benefits into consideration when evaluating green card applications. read more

Replace the word “lets” with the word “requires” and I’ll be impressed.

  2. I’m baffled.
I’ve studied/used the application documents (pretty sure it’s Forms I-751 and I-90), which currently – and *have*, for a long time – REQUIRE that applicants demonstrate they will not become “wards of the State” (or whatever the bureaucratic phrasing of “won’t be a welfare leech” is) BEFORE being approved for residency.

  3. The liberal media, Jake Trapper etc. are critical of President Trump for “violating” the Statue of Liberty poem.” “Give me your poor, yadda, yadda, yadda.
In my day, to come to America and get a Visa, you had to:
    1. Get a sponsor, a relative, a friend who would assure the American Government that you would not become a “ward of the State.”
Like, come over here and go straight to the Welfare office to collect a check.
    2. You had to have with you a Medical report, an X Ray, and a police report.
Now what is wrong with that?
The poem on the Statue of Liberty has nothing to do with being allowed into the Country. Jake Trapper and all those assholes in the media who keep bringing that fucking poem up are stupid.
It’s a nice poem, written by some communist and I feel the damn thing should be removed and replaced with: “Give me your best, your strongest, your brightest, yearning to be free and successful. Willing to serve the Country when needed. Willing to love and respect what you receive here. Willing to respect the flag of your new Nation.”
If you don’t agree. Then go back where the fuck you came from.

Moe Tom, AMEN! And yes, fuck Ted Kennedy.
