DailyCaller: Prospective teachers in New York will likely no longer have to pass a basic reading and writing literacy exam, the Associated Press is reporting.
The state’s Board of Regents is expected to ditch the Academic Literacy Skills Test in part because black and Hispanic teaching candidates struggled to pass the exam, according to the AP.
Just 41 percent of black teaching candidates and 46 percent of Hispanics passed the test on their first try, compared to 64 percent of white candidates.
The multiple choice exam is meant to ensure high standards among prospective teachers, which many teaching preparation programs have struggled to do.

As socialism started to destroy the economy in the 70’s, necessitating 2 paycheck families, women found more opportunity and better pay in business than teaching.
For the last 20+ years, the lowest scoring on SAT tests were education majors.
As a former, proud teacher (from the ’60’s) I couldn’t believe how incompetent teachers had become until reading the barely intelligible notes from my children’s affirmative action masters degree morons and now my grandchildren.
Schools no longer drill the times tables. No longer teach penmanship (no time they say) no longer teach phonetics, no longer teach spelling (parents are supposed to do that at home). The spelling “sight words” my 7 year old grandson brings home are misspelled or not words at all – ex: unpleased.
Teachers were so vital to me growing up. It’s sad to see how stupid most of them are today.

These, of course, would be the same folks who argue relentlessly that some ignorant stay at home mom can’t possible teach their children they way these “Professional Educators” can.

The fact the only 64% of white applicants passed the test ain’t thrilling me too much. When ghetto/barrio culture falls down, it drags whites down with it.
I didn’t see any pass rate percentages for Asians. Or do they even bother with teaching jobs below college level?

In a small city near me the left kept demanding more diversity in the Fire Dept. Well, the mayor told the people repeatedly that the tests were open to ALL, but he couldn’t force people to come and take the tests. That’s right – the diverse citizens were not even signing up for the tests. Well, FINALLY a diverse person took the test (test had been redesigned to be easier to pass) and was virtually hired before he answered the final question. He has been a disaster.
They have had women FF for years, so I don’t get what the bitchin was about. I suppose that women are not as good as DIVERSE persons. Anyway, the demands for a DIVERSE hiring has indeed quietened down now. BTW, the DIVERSE FF is mixed race, so the left got kind of punked on that one.

You need a college degree to be a teacher but these degree holders can’t pass a basic literacy test.
I may be an ignorant stay at home mom, but I can read and write – and so can my homeschool children!
My kids can spell and they know American history far better than many of their peers who attend the local Common Core (NYS) public school that I removed my children from.
