  1. The clouds have parted here in Big D.

I’ll be crewing in a sailboat race by 1pm.

Much less stress than being Skipper. Between the Skipper and myself we hold about 90% of the first place trophies in the fleet for the last 16 years. He was my only consistent competition back in the day and today we team up.

Can’t wait to see the reactions of the others when we show up together.

  2. Subliminal suggestion? Done!

Except for going to church, checking the mail box, getting gas for mower, stopping at the grocery store, trip to PetSmart for Penny, washing dishes, vacuuming,….. oh, who the hell am I kidding! Ya’ll have a great day napping! Sigh.

  3. Thanks Norm! We won both races.

The wind was above 10 mph and fickle but that affects everybody so it’s not a negative or plus by itself. That kind of day tests your ability to keep the boat flat – which the others did not do as good a job as we did on that point. Skill advantage – us. But the race committee kept changing the course mid-race and they weren’t clearly communicating in how they’d changed it. Lack of proper flags, whistles, etc. The first race started out as a W2 but became a W2 1/2 somehow. Pretty confusing. Like I said – lack of proper flags and other standard notifications of changes. Advantage – everyone following us. They sailed a shorter course.

Problems of being in the lead – you may be headed in the wrong direction because of changes like these and you might not know until you get half way to the next marker where you can see it.

Luckily our lead was enough to adjust and still keep that lead, but everyone else closed the gap some by seeing our adjustments and following the right path in the first place.

Great day. Met the new guys in the fleet and it was good to see the boat I won so many Regattas in in top shape by it’s new owners.

A little sad they changed the name but it’s beautiful. That boat is #357 out of 500 made back in the 60s. So it was .357 Magnum when I sailed it. Now it’s Louisiana Purchase because the couple came from La.. Mac, my biggest competitor at the time, didn’t have a name for his boat then – nor his new one now – but we would play Mack the Knife at the awards ceremonies for him. I would tell him he shouldn’t have brought a knife to a gun fight when I beat him. Good times. Good people.

    Now I’m pooped but happy.

I invited AWD (he’s a Dallas-ite as far as I could tell) to go sailing last year when I thought I would have another Corinthian by the end of last Summer, but that fell through (there are only so many) and then I got ran over by a car last September rendering me unable to walk for a while and sucked some money out of my bank since I couldn’t perform last Winter and needed to pay others to get the services done.

I will make good on that invitation, though. Just not as soon as I thought at the time.
