It was never about any virus.
Cultural note: my British owned company dropped its mask mandate today, “due to revised CDC guidance” and the removal of an FDA requirement concerning the presence of Federal inspectors in the facility that previously required universal masking. Masks are still available, but are optional.
In response to this, 90% of White people (with the remaining 10% heavily weighted female) are not wearing masks, but the numbers are reversed with Asians, and among Black people, the actual Africans from African countries pretty much all dropped the masks, but the American Blacks as a group seem to be the heaviest users at this point.
I don’t think that means anything racially, since both those groups are technically Black, but it would appear that the American contingent is more heavily indoctrinated/politicized/propagandized to do so than their overseas counterparts. It may also be a language issue, maybe its harder to sell Coof lies to non-English speakers.
The Asians are weighted towards Cambodians and Vietnamese, and culturally seem to be more accustomed to following instructions and wearing masks in general.
Visibly Hispanic people break about 50/50, but again weighted towards female, with more female usage counterbalancing less male usage.
As far as the White and Hispanic chicks, females seem to be more health-conscious which is an American cultural thing in that women from a young age are taught to worry more about their bodies than men, but also seem to tend to trust medical authorities more and actually research what they are told by medical authorities less.
Just my very own, very local observations. Your mileage may vary.

Asian tourists have been showing up in Alaska masked for at least ten years before coof became popular. I believe they mainly come from Japan, Korea and China but I don’t know that for certain. Before coof, maybe 1/4 to 1/3 wore masks and I always assumed that they were Chinese but not certain about that either.
