Now and Then

BBC

Sir Paul McCartney says he has employed artificial intelligence to help create what he calls “the final Beatles record”.

He told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme the technology had been used to “extricate” John Lennon’s voice from an old demo so he could complete the song.

“We just finished it up and it’ll be released this year,” he explained.

Sir Paul did not name the song, but it is likely to be a 1978 Lennon composition called Now And Then. More

It’s not half bad. Listen

  1. ” … George didn’t like it. The Beatles being a democracy, we didn’t do it.”

can’t you just see the vote? Paul: ‘yea’. George: ‘nay. Ringo: ‘I’m with you fellas’.

btw, that ‘democracy’ was working great when John & Paul voted for George & Ringo to have one song per album.

  2. to critique the song:
Lennon sounded like a Lennon in a Beatles tribute band
the harmonies didn’t sound like Harrison/McCartney … at all!
a few guitar riffs were reminiscent of Harrison during his the ’95 smaltz sessions
over-emphasis of bass in the beginning … thanks ‘Sir’ Paul

got a Yellow Dog CD of the evolution of Lennon’s ‘Strawberry Fields’ from bathroom recordings of his original concept to the final product … amazing look into his creative process.

this sounds like a first take studio version of a ‘work in progress’ … worse than ‘Real Love’

  3. The Beatles have been repackaging and reselling their music since they broke up. When they released the album 1 back in 2000 it was one of the big sellers of the year.
