“Making Citizens: How American Universities Teach Civics” shows how the Obama DOE has indoctrinated college students through progressive “New Civics” programs that seek to repurpose higher education away from the study of Western institutions, and even away from scholarship in general, in order to make little left-wing community organizers of our students.
The goal of the New Civics movement, concludes the NAS, is to teach students “that a good citizen is a radical activist,” putting “political activism at the center of everything that students do in college, including academic study, extra-curricular pursuits, and off-campus ventures.” Instead of a civics education that studies the foundations of American government, New Civics teaches students “how to organize protests, occupy buildings, and stage demonstrations.”
If you’ve seen how conservative speakers are silenced on campus, deplored the way in which conservative academics are ostracized or bemoaned the way in which much of American higher ed has been turned into an unsafe space by left-wing fascists, it didn’t come out of the blue. It was sponsored by the Obama administration.
The numbers are stunning. The allocation for higher ed in the 2013 federal budget was $65 billion, of which $25 billion was for federal research grants and $4 billion for general-purpose appropriations. New Civics likely comes under the general-purpose rubric, but the message for all college grant applicants is that you’ll fare better if you have a New Civics program.
It’s nothing less than a leveraged buyout of American higher education. Obama and his minions want to make “civic engagement” part of every class, every tenure decision and every extracurricular activity.

Drain the swamp. Start with the colleges.
Federal funding helps to insulate colleges and universities from state control. It also incentivizes schools to accept common core dictates. Now, if a state legislature is unhappy with the direction a school is taking, they can threaten to cut funding, but the school is less likely to care.
One of the hidden features of Affordable Care Act was federal takeover of student loans. This, tied with the feeding frenzy that was the Stimulus Bill, turned college presidents into trained seals for the Obama Administration.
Get out the wet vac.
Uncivil civics. Got it.
Back when I was in High School (graduated in ’71) we moved from “American History” to “Civics.” This was (probably) the culmination of the move from a mostly bullshit “education” to absolute indoctrination. We still had Algebra, Calculus, Physics (that shut down in ’73), Chemistry, Trigonometry, World History, English, Literature, and a smattering of other shit, but Latin and the classics were already gone.
Once the gov’t starts throwing money around, without looking for specific results, whatever they’re throwing money at turns to shit. The maggots are always available to pervert and abuse the taxpayers’ good intentions.
Education, Agriculture, Welfare … ad infinitum …

SO…………..do these students have to attend a mandatory rally at Nuremberg every year??
I also graduated from HS in 1971. I think that us older students were grandfathered in under the old system after about 1962 or 63 after Madeline Murray O’Hare got prayer kicked out of public schools with the Engels v Vitale Supreme Court decision. They left us alone and started with the younger kids in 1st grade to indoctrinate them, my youngest brother who graduated in 1976 was one of their first guinea pigs but he survived it because he doesn’t tolerate BS which got him into a lot of trouble. He’s a damned good mechanic and small business owner just like our Dad. When I started college in the mid 70’s after I got out of the Navy was when the push to indoctrinate students started to gain momentum although it had it roots in the late 60’s radical student movement.
