A Catholic school in Ohio has suspended a six-year-old boy (pictured: Malachi, six, with his father Matthew Miele) for three days for pretending to shoot an imaginary bow and arrow during recess

The first-grader was sent home from Our Lady of Lourdes School in Westwood this week because the school has a zero-tolerance policy on threatening gestures – whether real or pretend.

But the child’s furious parents say the punishment is excessive and want the school to change its policy.

  1. I guess the Catholic school couldn’t allow the kid to pretend to shoot a bow and arrow because it may have had Biblical connotations.

Genesis 21:20 And God was with the lad; and he grew, and dwelt in the wilderness, and became an archer.

Jeremiah 50:14 Put yourselves in array against Babylon round about: all ye that bend the bow, shoot at her, spare no arrows: for she hath sinned against the LORD.

I just can’t understand why so many little boys these days seem to be afraid of their own shadow and grow up to be such passive pansy asses when faced with even mild aggression from someone. They need to tie the principal up and have the kids try to shoot an apple off of his head with real bows and arrows (they could even use the rubber tipped arrows if they didn’t have enough broad heads).

  2. I went to 12 years of Catholic school and in each room there was a Crucifix of Christ hanging on a wall in each classroom. So, this school has a zero tolerance policy on threatening gestures yet they have on full display, front and center, in each classroom the representation of the savage public and humiliating execution of Christ in 33 AD. Yea, make sense, said no one with a brain.

  3. They should be more worried about the homosexual predators that infest the catholic church and molest children on an epidemic level. Do they expel little 6 year old boys for making out in the boys room ? I doubt it…

I guess the Little Rascals should be banned from tv because it is so violent. Charlie Brown cartoons too.

The boy demonstrated mental instabillity and uncertainty by pretending to shoot a make believe arrow but if he came to school dressed as a girl with a wig, lipstick, a sun dress, and perfume on he would be praised as the model of mental health.

I despise most school teachers and administrators. They are among the most closed minded bullys i have ever met.

  4. The bow and arrow was one of the original assault weapons don’t you know.
The God given right to self-defense and protecting of the innocent is being cast aside even by some churches. They do so at their / our own peril.
How is it when we were kids we Would play cowboys and Indians And army every single day almost and never grow up to be thugs shooting innocent people?

  5. In the 6th grade, Mrs. von Stein’s class, we had Renaissance day every year, took a month to get ready.
The girls were ladies of the court, had a king and queen, you know the literature. Some of the ‘rough’ boys were knights doing battle for their attention. We had plywood shields, wooden swords, home made armor and had actual sword fights on the playground. Bumps on the head, busted knuckles, bruises on the legs and ribs were
de rigueur and prized ‘badges of honour’.
The whole school came to watch.
Today I would give a lot of money to see a Prog teacher react to that magnificent spectral.
