Purdue U To Expel Student For Criticizing #BLM

HeatStreet-

On Wednesday, July 6th, Purdue University summoned Joshua Nash to meet with the Director of Student Assistance in regards to a “comment on Facebook.” Nash believes this meeting is due to a post where he said that “Black Lives Matter is trash because they do not really care about black lives. They simply care about making money and disrupting events for dead people.”

Nash is a biology major — who is gay and refers to himself as a “dangerous faggot” in his Twitter bio, a reference to conservative commentator Milo Yiannopoulos — and claims he has never faced disciplinary action with his school before.

“Attempting to silence students with subjective controversial opinions is completely and utterly absurd, and a direct attack on free speech,” Nash told me in an interview. He also says he found the disruption of a gay pride event in Toronto disrespectful to those who lost their lives in Orlando.

In addition to the reaction from Purdue, Nash found himself the target of multiple online threats from fellow students, some of whom he says called him a “dirt racist conservative scumbbag [sic],” and promised “if i ever see u on campus i am going to cut u till i see blood.” Nash reported these comments to Facebook, the university administration, and filed a police report.

“I think the government and public universities are indirectly responsible for the death threats I’ve been receiving,” Nash says. “People, especially students, have been led to believe it is illegal for someone to speak out against them with words that can be seen as ‘harmful.’ … These students are so adamant about protecting their rights, protecting their feelings, that they don’t realize what they’re doing… threatening to literally kill someone.”

  1. My business econ professor 15 years ago (a good conservative guy and now a friend) talked about his experience on the student board of his private university in the ’80s. Some people were sitting around his dorm and decided to order food. One guy said ‘let’s get Oriental food.’, which led to an intense discussion of how racist the term Oriental supposedly was. My friend was in the board discussion, the result of which was that the guy who said ‘Oriental’ was summarily dismissed from the university.
Oh, and the university was Occidental, just a few years after Barry smoked dope there.

  2. Why the fuck is any college allowed to get federal funds – which are allocated by Congress – and suppress free speech at the same time?

Enough of this shit. The people making these decisions need to be named. Some of them need to be taught a fucking lesson in what it means to limit the public’s liberty on the public’s dime.

  3. I would have written a letter in response to the Director of Student Assistance informing him/her that as a student who pays tuition, I am a customer, and am NOT to be summoned anywhere by ANY university officials to answer for exercising my First Amendment right. I would further inform them that in order for me to meet with them, I would REQUIRE:
    1. A letter of apology for the original letter of summons.
    2. A letter REQUESTING a meeting at MY convenience.
    3. A check in the amount of $50k for the insinuation that I may require professional counseling for stating my opinion on Facebook. (I read the actual letter on another site)

Ultimately, a student is a paying customer of a university, not a subject, not a serf, not a slave. Students are there paying for an education, professors are there being paid to provide that education.

  4. UPDATE – Facing numerous death threats, University decides NOT to expel student… rather, offer him “dialog and support.”

    Translation: Attitude Adjustment. 👿
