I’m just hearing this now.
Very sad. I liked this man very much. He was only 74.
In a statement posted on Twitter, Bill Rogin, his longtime manager, said Ermey had died due to complications from pneumonia.
See the video where Ermey grabs Obama by the scruff of the neck and curses him out – (NSFW)
A true American in every way. he will be missed.
I always liked him too. My Daddy died at 74 some 21 years ago. I liked him as well.
“Speaking the truth in times of universal deceit is a revolutionary act.” Geo. Orwell
This man was a true American original.
Rest In Peace, Sir.
very sad … loved that guy …. UUH RAH!
Semper Fi, Gunny
Rest in Peace, Sir! You gotta love guys like him.
I hoped to meet him one day. RIP, Gunny.
How would you like to be a snowflake kind of a guy, going over to his house to pick up his daughter for a date?
Nobody ever told me that getting old would be one long gray parade of having all my heroes pass, one by one.
I watched all those shows of him shooting off Military ordinance.
The joy on his face when firing a maxim gun.
Made my night.
A great guy who was gracious enough to have a lengthy conversation with me a few years back. Semper Fi, Gunny!
Here’s what the Gunny had to say to Fox News in 2016:
“I’ve had a very fruitful career. I’ve done over 70 feature films,” he said. “I’ve done over 200 episodes of [Outdoor Channel series ‘GunnyTime’]… and then [Hollywood] found out that I’m a conservative.”
Actually, he corrected, “I’m an Independent, but I said something bad about the president. I had something unsavory to say about the president’s administration, and even though I did vote for him the first time around, I was blackballed.”
Ermey, who was an NRA board member, said at the time that his association with the organization and his disapproval of President Obama cost him acting jobs.
“Do you realize I have not done a movie in five to six years? Why? Because I was totally blackballed by the … liberals in Hollywood,” he alleged. “They can destroy you. They’re hateful people [who] don’t just not like you, they want to take away your livelihood … that’s why I live up in the desert on a dirt road … I don’t have to put up with their crap.”
Shut up, Al. That’s my line.
The saddest news in a long time.
Anybody else see ‘Siege of Firebase Gloria’?
I loved that movie.
Even though it had Wings Hauser.
Best quotable lines
Aw. I watched his show on the History Channel.
Rest in peace
His Glock commercials are priceless.
I’d hate to have him as my DI but he made good men out of good kids. RIP.
Godspeed, Gunny.
HST, like his hero Black , hated the Corps(Thats Core man with 3 Ivy League degrees! Not corpsss!))so we ignored his baby UCMJ. I got hit more than once in Boot and hit insubordinate more than once myself. Candy Ass folk are bad killers! I was good!
Vietvet: Huh. Surprised he voted for 0bama in 2008.
But we saw he wasn’t a fan soon after. lol.

Today is Christmas! There will be a magic show at zero-nine thirty.
RIP
R.Lee Ermy and Art Bell… what a shitty month. Rest in peace my Friends.
I was fortunate to meet him some years ago. RIP, Gunny. Semper Fi, Fair winds & following Seas.
Here’s a 30 min clip on the making of Full Metal Jacket. I watched it and found out thing that just blew my mind. Like the movie was shot in England, and how old factory complexes were make to look like Hue City. It’s amazing!

@Lazlo, Hell yeah,”The Siege of FBG is a favorite of mine also. I have the movie at home and have watched it many times…plan on watching it again in honor of the Gunny…may he rest in eternal peace.

A disturbing report. I cut no slack to anybody stupid enough to vote for the Kenyan. I with draw my original comment.
Thanks for that film clip, Doc.
Did his first initial stand for Robert by any chance? I loved watching him on Mail Call on the History Channel back when it had actual history programs on it. RIP Good Sir!
He was here in my home town a few years back, my brother met him and got an autograph picture. Simper Fi Marine.

GySgt. Ermey lived and ended his life with his Faith, Honor, Integrity and Love of his Corps intact. Few in hollywood or Washinton D.C. can say the same.
Semper Fi Gunny, Fair winds and following Seas.
Ask Chesty, Sergeant John Basilone, Petty Officer, Corpsman Wayne M. Caron, Lance Cpl. Richard Anderson, and Cpl. Jimmy Worth and all worthy Marines to save me a seat at the chow hall.

@MJA and Bad_Brad: A lot of people tend to forget how good Obama looked to a lot of people when he first ran for election, especially against the likes of McStain and Palin. Remember, he ran on the platform of “Washington must change”, same as Trump, and he won by a sizeable margin. With the benefit of hindsight we now know better, but that was then and this is now, as they say.
I didn’t vote for him, but I won’t chunk rocks at Ermy for doing so.
Now if it had been the 2012 election…
Vietvet
Dang, I busted up a few friend ships with a couple older military guys that got sucked into the Obama Bull shit. Older is still younger than me. Interesting enough all the young guys are Patriots. I don’t get it. WTF. One was an older (45) MARSOC door kicker. Influenced by his daughters. one attended the big protest for the pipeline. Last time I saw him I asked him “Really? Who’s the adult.” He stomped away haven’t heard from him since. Oh Hum, Lifes complicated I guess.
Vietvet, I’m glad to hear you didn’t vote for him the first time just because he was saying hope and change. Anybody that did vote for him is either a threat to the republic or just not paying attention. It’s hard to imagine a guy like him voting for obama.
If Trump nominizes @TheSlyStallone to replace @RLeeErmey as general, I can garauntee that many Republicans will join Democrats in blocking that nominization. – Maxine P. Waters
@joe6pak: Believe it or not, I’m almost as ashamed I voted for McCain as I would be if I had voted for Obama, who I never trusted from the get-go. Of course, pretty much all I knew about him at the time was that he was a Vietnam veteran, former POW, and (supposedly) a hero. That made him a good guy to me, I guess. Had I known then what I know now, I would have boycotted the election.
Like I said, hindsight…
Vietvet
Aren’t we all. And Romney. Live and learn I guess. I voted for Palin. Same as you.
@Bad_Brad (at 10:57 pm): Everybody makes mistakes in life, but as they say, “Fool me once, shame on you…”.
You know the rest.
🙂
@Bad_Brad (at 11:14 pm): I wish there had been some way to make Palin earn my vote. She was pretty hot back then.
🙂
When you get right down to it, there are very few politicians that you can stand up and say you were proud to vote for them. President Trump is among the few!
Vietvet
You dog, LOL. She occasionally posts on the CTH. She is a conservative to the core. Here family seems to be a little screwed up. But who’s isn’t. Pretty freaken strange McShitStain picked her in the first place. I like Sarah. She’s the hottest librarian evah.
too much grief…..
too much…..
All I can say is this,
God must have required him for a greater purpose. I hope that purpose, in some way, leads to the indictment and conviction of every anti-American POS that ever lived during his time.
And Gunny Ermey, I forgive you for voting for Obama.
Long live the Marine Corps.
You had to be a brain dead MoFo to vote for the Kenyan. Especially from a military back ground. Feel free to tell me where I’m wrong here.
It’s bad when your hero’s turn out to be less than what you hoped for.

@Bad_Brad: Did it ever occur to you that maybe the Gunny didn’t really vote for Obummer, but just told the Hollywood libs he did in order to keep the movie roles coming?
I could totally see that happening. Might have even done it myself if I was in his position.
If he wanted to continue working in Hollyweird, though, he should have kept his mouth shut regarding his politics, and told them his NRA membership was just for his public image (wink, wink).
Vietvet
OUTSTANDING. I hope so. I draw a hard line these days. I give no quarter.
@Bad_Brad: Hope this isn’t too much of a disappointment, either, but the Gunny was actually a former staff sergeant. The Marine Corps gave him an honorary promotion to gunnery sergeant later, probably after he became famous.
Also, a lot of people think his first movie role was in Full Metal Jacket, but he actually started out in films nine years earlier, in The Boys in Company C. He even had an uncredited role in Apocalypse Now.

P.S. – Our heroes always turn out to be less than what we hoped for. But we still need them.
Hey, I voted for Jimmy Carter. I was 19 and stupid. Everybody screws up once in awhile, sometimes massively (right Moe Tom? 😄)
RIP R. Lee Ermey
My wife and I met him last June at the Kittery Trading Post. His time was limited (he had to catch a flight home) and we almost missed meeting him because he insisted on talking to and getting to know every one of his fans that had gone to see him that day. One of the highlights of my entire year!
RIP Gunny!

Gunny will be amongst men as bad ass as he, RIP brother.
Give Sargent York a turkey on me, tell Sargent “Mac” McKinney I said hey.
RIP
Enjoyed his work.
My dad was a Marine and we lost him when he was 74, too. I lost my mom last week. Dang!
