Racial Quotas No Longer Correct Racism – BFH

Maybe there was a time in out nation’s history where racial quotas would have made sense because employers steadfastly refused to hire black people. But it never made any sense if it displaced the better qualified person simply because they didn’t look a certain way. Qualified whites, or blacks, should never be shut out.

People often point to major league baseball and minimize Babe Ruth’s accomplishments, pointing out that he wasn’t facing the nation’s best because blacks need not apply. They say this while disregarding the same logic when they declare that Josh Gibson was a superior hitter to Ruth.

If Ruth wasn’t facing the nation’s best, who the hell was Gibson facing? He batted against an even smaller pool of talent to draw from.

But this is not the argument. Was it fair to cut blacks out of Major League Baseball? No.

Would racial quotas have been fair?

Not if a more qualified player was displaced simply because he was white. But if an egghead wanted to make their argument that quotas would have been fair, I’m all ears. But in 2021 are quotas really necessary?

On Wednesday, the CEO of United Airlines, Scott Kirby, announced-

“Over the next decade, United will train 5,000 pilots who will be guaranteed a job with United, after they complete the requirements of the Aviate program — and our plan is for half of them to be women and people of color.”

Was Kirby racist on Tuesday?

Was United Airlines denying qualified black people from becoming pilots? That’s quite an admission if they were. But I doubt it.

The truth is more likely that not a lot of women or black people were really all that interested, and the white CEO felt uncomfortable at the “Pilot Picnic” because it didn’t look like what he, personally, felt it should look like (or what the rabble-rousing shakedown artist, Al Sharpton, told him it should look like, or else.)

Racial quotas were ostensibly created to combat racism. That is not the case any longer.

Gavin McInnes has a great bit about a CEO marveling at a resume that came across his desk. It’s from an accountant that can save him millions of dollars in taxes because of the man’s expertise, and he’s all excited to hire him until….. he sees it…. “Ohhhhhhh, he’s black.”

The point being, this would never happen, ever, in 2021.

So what are racial quotas doing?

Well, it’s assuaging white guilt.

It’s following trendiness.

It’s a calculated business decision that banks on a #BLM endorsement.

It’s anything but combatting racism. It’s a feel-good solution in search of a problem.

United Airlines has decided they want the company to look a certain way in their Annual Report, and they will be recruiting people who have no ambition for piloting and filling the cockpit with people who did not dream of flying in the sky since they were 10.

Those people, white or black, were already applying, and the only reason they didn’t fulfill their dream is because they weren’t too good at it. Or, airline CEOs are rabid racists.

What do you believe?

  1. Hi, United Reservations? I’d like to fly from L.A. to Miami on the 21st. One question, will my pilot be a diversity hire? Yes? Never mind. I’ll call another airline. One that focuses on competency and safety.

  2. Mandating ethnic die-versity for the sake of what? Refuse to answer on any form where your biological map might go back to. Qualifications are the key, not some arbitrary ‘minimum wage’ set by a cabal of guvmint pinkos.

  3. Affirmative action started with, “They need it cuz they’re powerless.” To, “We can’t get rid of it because they have too much power.” It’s a quick transition between the two.

  4. LUMP QUOTAS IN WITH BLACK VIOLENCE, BLM BULLSHIT, WATCHING OUR CITIES BURN, SEEING WHITES AND OTHERS BE ASSAULTED AND KILLED, ETC…AND I THINK IT (QUOTA REQUIREMENTS) FUELS RACISM..

  5. It’s gotten so bad that when you treat blacks equally they think you are discriminating against them because they are so used to getting a leg up. You take away the leg up and it’s racist

  6. I used to fly extensively for my job. Continental was the corporate preferred airlines. Back when Continental and United merged there were problems with delays or missed connections due to equipment failure or just plain bad management. The running joke at the office when someone was flying was they were going to take a ride on the Continental United Network Transportation and you better bring along some protection. It was bad enough the company switch to Delta as preferred airline.

I am glad I retired and rarely fly anymore.

  7. My itty-bitty company, (we had 3 or 4 employees), offered a job to a Latino, ex-con, male, with facial tattoos.
He was a piss poor worker but we kept him on cause he seemed decent enough and talked about wanting to change his life.

The problem cured itself when he went back to burglary and the property owned shot and killed him.

  8. MLB was integrated, not out of altruism, but because the Negro League was a better draw.

But most revisionist “history” is bullshit. Most people keep to their own “kind” because that’s where they’re comfortable. Ball players, drunks, race car fanatics, grill masters, blues junkies, rock hounds, spelunkers, metal heads, gear heads, drug addicts … whatever. Basically, it’s none of the government’s business. Particularly the Federal gov’t – which is circumscribed by the Constitution and is “supposed” to be the impartial, republican (not the party, the representative aspect) will of ALL the citizens.

Davis-Bacon was passed to keep negroes OUT of Federal contracting.

The FedGov (to a lesser extent the State Govs) are the biggest fuck-ups vis-à-vis “race” relations.

  9. Want to know what it will look like just note what old incompetent and crazy joe biden is doing to the US of A as an example of not getting the best person for the job!

  10. I think if you hire the most qualified people that you will eventually discover that you already have equality BUILT RIGHT IN!! A pleasant unexpected side-effect of hiring the best people for the job.

“Gosh. It’s like they’re not even [pick from one of: white, black, yellow, brown, red, etc.]”

PS: FWIW, I’m Powhatan; i.e. “red.”
