RIP Tim Conway

*sniff* Some of the funniest bits on TV came from this treasure of a comedian. God speed, Tim.

  1. Tim killed so many before before his time, in such a professional sense,,
and he did it to the best of them,,
God accept and bless him as he did it for us in life to enjoy,,,,

  2. …he was an old-school comedian, too, with no message other than to make us laugh…

…it’s an insult to him what the liberals call “comedians” now, they’re ALWAYS political and NEVER funny.

I don’t recall Mr. Conway ever doing a “message” sketch, correct me if I’m wrong, but it just seems like it would have been beneath his massive talents to do so…

  3. Supernightshade, Tim Conway did one stinkeroo called Turn On by the creators of Laugh In in the late 60’s which lasted all of one episode before ABC canceled it abruptly. I know because I actually watched it and it was awful and 50 yrs. later all I remember was it was terrible. Other than that he was very funny and a class act.

  4. I only looked forward to the Carol Burnett show to get my dose of Tim Conway. Carol and the rest were good but Tim carried every skit he was in. Irreplaceable.

  5. …thank you, @geoff the aardvark, I didn’t know about that for the simple reason that I didn’t watch Laugh-In. My parents weren’t fans, and even as a callow lad I knew that if something had to put the “LAUGH” in the title, it was unlikey to have any in the SHOW…

  6. Oh, man. What can you say about one of the funniest humans on planet earth? The minute he walked on camera during the Carol Burnett Show you knew you were in for something hysterical. Who else could pull off a bit about a Nazi interrogator with a führer puppet? There’ll never be another like him. Today’s “comedians” could learn so much from Tim. He made his mark for sure.

  7. I always thought that The Smothers Brothers were funnier than Laugh In. Pat Paulsen’s political humor was the best, I can still laugh at it. I never cared for Laugh In as it was one of the first comedy shows that started the push towards vulgarity and coarseness in the late 60’s. At most I thought it was stupid and in poor taste and in reruns it still stinks while reruns of The Carol Burnett show are classics and always will be funny.

  8. There are not many of the “Old Timers” left now.
He was always fun to watch. Thank God for the intertubes,we can still watch real talent when we want to.

  9. I guess I don’t share this appreciation of Tim Conway. Don’t flame me I may be a victim of time circumstances. I was just the slightest bit too young to appreciate McHale’s Navy

And then I’m a teenager when he had his next gig on the Carol Burnett Show. A teenager at the time wouldn never watch Carol Burnett, even if you put a gun to his head. And then there’s problem that it was my older sister’s favorite show

And to compound the problem, Big Sis would invite a couple of her homely, unpleasant Honor Society friends over to watch. If only she had invited Debbie P and Alison S, her two hottie friends who always had me panting like a dog when they came over …. then I would have loved Carol Burnett and whoever this Tim Conwway guy was
