(AP) — Russia pounded Ukraine’s energy facilities Tuesday with its biggest barrage of missiles yet, striking targets across the country and causing widespread blackouts. A senior U.S. intelligence official said missiles crossed into NATO member Poland, where two people were killed.
A second person told The Associated Press that apparent Russian missiles struck a site in Poland about 15 miles from the Ukrainian border.
If confirmed, the strike would mark the first time in the war that Russian weapons have come down on a NATO country.
The Russian Defense Ministry denied being behind “any strikes on targets near the Ukrainian-Polish border” and said in a statement that photos of purported damage “have nothing to do” with Russian weapons.
A NATO official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the alliance was looking into reports of a strike in Poland. The U.S. National Security Council said it was also checking into the reports.
Polish government spokesman Piotr Mueller did not immediately confirm the information from the U.S. intelligence official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the situation. But Mueller said top leaders were holding an emergency meeting due to a “crisis situation.”
Polish media reported that two people died Tuesday afternoon after a projectile struck an area where grain was drying in Przewodów, a Polish village near the border with Ukraine.
The barrage also affected neighboring Moldova. It reported massive power outages after the strikes knocked out a key power line that supplies the small nation, an official said.
Uh huh. Don’t believe a thing from U.S. or NATO “intelligence.”
Prove the origin of the devices with evidence.
General Malaise – I believe Poland.
The news with clowns.
Never trust it, they’re in on it.
How can anyone over there be believed without rock solid evidence. False flag? It wouldn’t be the first time.
who writes these idiotic headlines? it doesn’t matter that the missiles crossed into Poland necause airspace is “into” Poland, what matters is that the missles impacted in Poland.
The missiles hit a grain drying facility. Hardly a random target. If it was one missile, you could blame faulty navigation and target identification. If it was more than one, it was by design. Design by whom? We may never know.
Winter approaches. Putin has no motivation to give up. The West is pouring money into his coffers. He may be testing NATO resolve as he sets up for a Winter offensive to retake lost ground and push on to Odessa and Moldova. Keep an eye on Belarus and Serbia. They are key players in Putin’s plans as well as wildcards.
When does Ukraine decide to attack beyond its borders? At least similar strikes against critical infrastructure. When you surpass a certain level of destruction, escalation is no longer a credible threat by Russia.
Errant Russian missile crashed into Poland? Maybe.
Let’s remember the Incident at the Polish border with Germany late August 1939, a manufactured incident by the German Gov’t to attack Poland, or the Mukden Bridge incident 1n 1937 that Japan provided as an excuse to conquer Manchuria, or, for that matter the Tonkin Gulf incident that the US State Dept. used as a perfect alibi for us to send troops to Vietnam.
So two Poles were killed? I bet nobody in NATO gives two shits about those sacrificed lambs.
I expect nothing but lies from world leaders. They can all get fucked.
Why would Russia, after putting out the lights in most of Ukraine, cross a major red line which could start WW3? So that they could slake their blood lust by killing 2 people ….. Hmmmm?
Now, would Ookraine* benefit if a missile crossed into Poland? …. Thats a possibility
*(How Украина is actually pronounced, BTW. The “У” is an adverb meaning “away” So Ookraine basically means the “region over there.” Its a description, not a name)
MOST wars are started by, financed by, prolonged by, idolized by and capitalized by liberals, commies, democrats, Nazis, Fascists…Take your pick.
@Gilbert
You have a point, but it is not relevant anymore. What matters today is gung-ho war liberals vs anti-war conservatives. It is the latter who are tired of the US playing the role of global policeman. It costs too much in lives and treasure and gains us nothing. Think Afghanistan.
By liberals I include all shades of socialists, Global Warming/eco-warriors, UN supporters, baby killers, perverts, and one-world government types. They are all a despicable bunch of liars and murderers. Most of them hate that the US Constitution represents freedom, free speech, and independence and are the enemy of the American people.
