LAS VEGAS, NEVADA (Reuters) – U.S. presidential candidate Scott Walker said if he is elected next year he will seek to eliminate federal government unions and the agency that investigates labor disputes, as well as helping states let public employees opt out of union membership.
After fading to low single-digits in recent public opinion polls, the Republican Wisconsin governor unveiled the package of anti-union measures on Monday that he said were inspired by the 2011 union-busting campaign in his state that propelled him to national prominence.
At a construction equipment company in Las Vegas, Walker acknowledged the measures, including eliminating the National Labor Relations Board, would be much more difficult to achieve at the federal level, given that Congress would have to approve nearly every part of his plan.
“If you’re a big-government union boss in Washington, this is a threat to you and to all of the politicians that you have under your control in our nation’s capital,” he told a Nevada resident at the rally. more
Taking on the Federal unions is a great idea… maybe he should have led with that before taking a tumble in the polls. Probably too little too late.
Did he just put a target on himself? I can’t think about unions without thinking about organized crime — which is the same as saying they own politicians.
About time he shows up.
A good topic for Trump to latch onto. His favorability rating would go up another 5%.
It is a great idea, but not one of the country’s most pressing issues right now. He would make a great Labor Secretary. (I would definitely vote for him, if nominated, but I don’t see that happening.)
If by “Federal Unions” he means “Power-usurping Executive Agencies” I am all for it. That’s the bigger problem, and the supine GOPer Congress will never deal with it.
I can’t see any of the GOPe supporting his measures, as great as they are. Much bigger priorities are out there anyway. We don’t need great measures. We need someone who can f-ing steamroll the GOPe and progs.
“I’m a steamroller, baby…”
Well, isn’t that special.
HEY SCOTT: we got bigger problems than pissy little government unions.
When I listen to Walker nowadays, all I hear is campaign custsultants, not him.
Hey Scott, FIRE THOSE A-HOLES, and then we’ll talk….
He’s still for amnesty so FUCK HIM
I’m all for amnesty – If they go back, I’ll forgive them.
