This story is friggin’ ridiculous.
It’s about an owner of a diner in Detroit’s worst neighborhood, an area called by a company which tracks crime- “the most dangerous neighborhood in America.”
The owner doesn’t have protection like the rest of the businesses in Detroit. He has no bulletproof glass and has an open area kitchen and register that customers can easily access. He came to America from Yugoslavia in 1968, the day Detroit won the World Series. His father worked a second shift in order to buy the diner to keep his dropout son out of trouble. The drop-out bought the diner from his father when he was 18. He’s kept the diner virtually unchanged as the neighborhood declined into a hellhole around him.
How are we supposed to react to this story? It seems obvious that we’re supposed to think of this owner as a person to emulate. We’re supposed to learn some sort of lesson. In fact, the moral is laid out for us in a passage that is supposed to inspire “awwwwwwws,” but it inspires vomiting.
“Most of the places around here, they’re all glassed up,” Trpcevski said, talking as his dining room filled up with customers and he scrambled to fill all the orders. “But I hate that. I’ve never seen no need for that. I figured if you treat people right they’ll treat you good right back. And I’ve never had any problem here. I feel more at home here than I do where I live.”
“Why would they come in to do something to a man they’ve known since kids? I don’t think he’s ever had to worry about that,” said Dion Browning.
So, blacks in Detroit rob and shoot people BECAUSE THEY HAVE BULLETPROOF GLASS UP? It’s a chicken and egg thing. I guess the bulletproof glass came first, then the armed robberies?
And this Dion Browning dude implies that if there’s a business in Detroit where the feral thugs roaming the streets don’t know the owner they better worry.
This story makes me sick. It’s like the Chris Rock joke where he says he’s sick of black people indignantly saying “I take care of my kids,” as if this deserves a medal.
“YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR KIDS!!!,” Chris Rock yells.
“YOU’RE NOT SUPPOSED TO ROB ANY STORE, NOT JUST THE PEOPLE YOU DON’T KNOW!!!!!!!!”
Geez.
ht/ Rob e.
Drug addicts will rob their own families.
Even in safe business neighborhoods, jewelry stores have bullet-proof glass, barred windows and doors, and security cameras out the wazoo.
This just tells me that the people in this area don’t want to rob him because he doesn’t have anything they want to steal.
Sounds like he makes dang good food. Maybe the ferals learned not to bite the hand that feeds them. If his food was yuck, then watch out.
Great story, Detroit Free Press. I give it a week before this filters down to feral retards and the place gets shot up.
The takeaway is supposed to be that these really are good people in that shithole neighborhood. There is actual media coverage honoring the fact that they haven’t killed him. Such goooood people. Didn’t kill him. They’re really wonderful.
I would say that there is some feral thug out there who, upon reading this, sees a soft target with plenty of cash in the register and wants himself a quick payday. But, then I catch myself and realize that feral thugs can’t read, won’t read. But, there is always word of mouth…
I’ll wager a dollar to a day-old doughnut that the most important factor in his seeming invulnerability was not disclosed: protection. He probably pays some local thugs or gang to keep him safe. It may be cash, or it could be food.
Also, I call BS on the lead-in, which states that some dude got pulled over by FIVE De-troit cops. I don’t think De-troit has FIVE cops on duty at any one time.
I wonder also about him being a badass slightly crazy slav that will shoot you if you rob him
Didn’t you see the part where it describes his mother and grandmother commanding machine gun nests?
yep, as Chris Rock says…books are like kryptonite to the…..
