Documentary filmmaker Morgan Spurlock, an Oscar-nominee who made food and American diets his life’s work—famously eating only at McDonald’s for a month to illustrate the dangers of a fast-food diet—has died at age 53. Spurlock died Thursday in New York from complications of cancer, according to a statement issued by his family, per the AP. “It was a sad day, as we said goodbye to my brother Morgan,” said Craig Spurlock, who worked with him on several projects, in the statement. “Morgan gave so much through his art, ideas, and generosity.”
- Spurlock made a splash in 2004 with his groundbreaking Super Size Me, and returned in 2019 with Super Size Me 2: Holy Chicken!—a sober look at an industry that processes 9 billion animals a year in America.
Seemed like a decent enough fellow. Certainly, an untimely death.
I doubt he could have made his “Supersize” movie today with Bidenomics in full force.

I recall listening to a syndicated medical call-in show not too long after Super-Size Me came out. The show host related an article written by a journalist who decided to try the same diet regimen and found that after a month of eating soley at McDonald’s for a month she actually LOST weight.
Spurlock was pretty much vegetarian, as I recall, at least a healthy eater, and fitness-oriented.
The other half of eating only at McDonalds for a month was that he intentionally reduced his physical activity to essentially couch potato, the idea being that he was matching the diet and activity of a typical couch potato American. I would guess that the lack of activity had more impact than his McDiet.
