Tales From The Far Side – IOTW Report

Tales From The Far Side

I never knew that Gary Larson’s “The Far Side” had been made into an animated Halloween special, until I found it on the internet a few months ago.

In the 1990s, there were two productions (“Tales From The Far Side I” done in 1994 and “Tales From the Far Side II” done in 1997), but thanks to a take-down order, you can’t watch either one on YouTube anymore.

You can, however, enjoy the work on the two productions from one of the sound engineers. While incomplete, it’s still a good sampling of the originals. Watch

  1. Strange that I just picked up, just last week, the “The Far Side Gallery 2” at a yard sale. With a foreword by Stephen King. Gary Larson had a strange way with humor – but it worked for me.

  2. I remember watching the one with bugs hitting the windshield, it was hilarious. They only showed the animated Far Side cartoons once on TV. My kids were still little and we had a blast watching them. .45.70 and Popeye by EC Segar and Krazy Kat from an earlier age as well as Lil Abner and Pogo.

  3. I recall seeing, 30 something years ago, the thirty minute cartoon with the two deer hunters who end up themselves strapped to the top of the flying saucer piloted by two deer hunter hunters. Fun stuff.

One of my favorite GL comics was the one with 2 alligators laying on their backs on the beach with swollen bellies. Strewn along the beach were bits of a canoe, broken paddles, and life jackets. One ‘gator says to the other one, ” I don’t know what that was but it was tasty & tender. With no hoofs, horns, or fur .”

  4. @Geoff
Just numb mostly, trying hard not to think about it because the stress and anxiety of it has made my body sick.
(I guess it happens to some people during traumatic events.)

I’m just kind of in a haze. Only cried 7 times today…

    Thank you for asking.
