  1. Day is done, gone the sun
From the lakes, from the hills, from the sky
    All is well, safely rest
    God is nigh.

    Fading light dims the sight
And a star gems the sky, gleaming bright
    From afar, drawing near
    Falls the night.

Thanks and praise for our days
Neath the sun, ‘neath the stars’, ‘neath the sky’
As we go, this we know
    God is nigh.

  2. Taps and Amazing Grace, performed by soloists, both seem to cause something in my eyes. I’m within an hour of Tacoma, I’m going to try and find his neighborhood and listen to him.

  3. I don’t want to hijack this thread, but I want to share a story. When I took my boat out to spread my little brothers ashes at sea on a cold March day we came in at idle speed as the sun set, and a few houses down there was a lone bagpiper at the end of a dock in a kilt playing ‘Amazing Grace’. My other 4 siblings were in tears (and I think they still think to this day I set it up) at the beautiful moment. It was pure coincidence that he was there that night…I’ve seen and heard him many times over the years. TAP’s gets me the same way every time I hear it and the words of the song make it even more special.

Goodnight my friends…I’m gonna go cry for a few minutes…..

  4. well crap, I thought something was wrong…I went to wiki to post the lyrics….wiki suks! Here are the real lyrics!

Day is done, gone the sun,
From the hills, from the lake,
    From the sky.
    All is well, safely rest,
    God is nigh.

    Go to sleep, peaceful sleep,
    May the soldier or sailor,
    God keep.
On the land or the deep,
    Safe in sleep.

Love, good night, Must thou go,
When the day, And the night
    Need thee so?
    All is well. Speedeth all
    To their rest.

    Fades the light; And afar
    Goeth day, And the stars
    Shineth bright,
Fare thee well; Day has gone,
    Night is on.

Thanks and praise, For our days,
‘Neath the sun, Neath the stars,
    ‘Neath the sky,
As we go, This we know,
    God is nigh.

  5. To associate playing Taps (or bagpipes for that matter) to the muslim call to prayer sounds clownish to me. I would be honored to hear Taps being played at sunset every night. And to anyone that doesn’t want to hear Taps at sunset, you can look the time up and stick ear plugs in. Or leave our country.

  6. I used to sail Windjammer Barefoot Cruises. Each time we hoisted sail they would play a bagpipe version of Amazing Grace over the speakers. 10 cruises and it never failed to send a chill up my spine.. Taps is the same.

  7. It was always played at “lights out”. Since there is no such benchmark time in a neighborhood, sunset seems like a good, daily equivalent to “lights out”.
