Daily Caller- Teacher unions across the country face an uncertain future after the Supreme Court’s decision not to force workers to pay mandatory fees to cover union collecting bargaining costs.
The Janus v. AFSCME 31 case dealt with Mark Janus, an Illinois state worker, arguing that the state violated his First Amendment rights by making him pay agency fees to a union because he did not want to join it. Janus believed paying agency fees forced him to speak through the union.
“This is a fundamental defeat for unions. There’s no sugar-coating it; this is a huge defeat,” Nat Malkus, deputy director of education policy studies at the American Enterprise Institute, told The Daily Caller. more here
bad for the bad teachers good for the students
Maybe they’ll be forced to stop supporting the Democrats and get out of politics altogether and concentrate on their members welfare. That would be a change, no more DC cocktail parties for the union bigwigs, no more calls returned by Senators, no more private jets. Hell, they could cut Union Corporate by 80% and force some of these people back into the classroom, preferably in East LA, Chicago or Brooklyn.
in the meantime, liberal indoctrinators disguised as teachers hold your children hostage for 6 hours per day with zero accountability.
You need cameras in every class your child attends if you persist in placing your kids in their clutches.
Charlie WoW,
I wonder what schools would think of kids wearing body cams?
@claudia. They’d probably scream 1st amendment or privacy or racism or something.
Good thing to do though. If we can have dashcams in every car and cops with cams we should be able to monitor teachers in every classroom. Kids are indoctrinated 6 hours/day with no teacher accountability
“… a huge defeat”? Really? Great!
Just like posting that other decision (can’t remember which – but it had to do with not being forced to pay for political stuff with which one didn’t subscribe) the Union maggots just ignored it.
Cut out automatic withholding of union dues and fees, make the unions accept checks only (so that there’s a trail), and make joining voluntary (it’s called “Freedom of Association”).
Unions may – MAY – have had a point sometime in the deep, dark, ancient past – but certainly not today. They provide NOTHING. Unions are parasitic conglomerations of thugs preying on working men (and women).
A business (or industry) can exist without a union, but a union CANNOT exist without business (or industry). Just a plain fact. That is the definition of parasite.
And teacher unions (any kind of public sector unions) are abominations which need to be destroyed. Their parasitism is DOUBLE that of ordinary parasitical unions.

I’m a teacher and I would love web cams in my classroom. Only parents have password access. I could text message certain parents and say “log on and check out Johnny”. Privacy issues will never allow it. I think it would positively improve parent, student, as well as teacher performance.
@tim you’re saying that afscme union parasites live off the government parasite that lives off the people? Did i get that right? LOL
@Walnut, i’ve posted/noted/asked local politicians to do this. You cant believe the blank stares i get, even from ultra conservatives.
What good are teacher unions anyway?
All I hear from teachers is that they are underpaid and that they have to pay for teaching supplies out of their own pocket.
Really?
Are you buying your students laptops and iPads?
Teacher unions will suffer a severe decline in membership and more importantly a big cut in dues income. I don’t see any uncertainty about this.
Oh, yeah, meant to say HURRAH!
It’s weird how a victory for people’s rights is considered a defeat for the Democrats – like maybe they really aren’t the Party of the People or something.
Unions beget corruption and career-incompetence.
There should be no, repeat no organization for collective bargaining in ANY gov job.
Dues really are the biggest above-board money laundering machine for the dems. They’re going to fight to get around this decision any way they can.
Teacher accountability? What a concept. Now let’s get to admin accountability. I have a bone to pick with the latter, big time.
Under the new tax law, unions dues are no longer deductible.
Great news and if enough teacher’s leave the union they can put their own voices out there with the school administration’s and get back to teaching facts.
Their (union maggots) pensions should be paid from their union dues (as well as their “continuing education” and health insurance).
That’s the way it was in the beginning.
Taxpayers should not be on the hook for union thuggery, embezzlement, and theft.
Until the taxpayers are free from this onerous mis-allocation of their money, they remain slaves to the union maggotry and the pandering pols.
