Phil used to say that was the most fucked up movie he had ever seen.
“The fucking ball…”
I agree.

Although it was The Exorcist that creeped me out just a smidgen more when I climbed those stairs to do a telephone repair. I parked at the petrol station below and climbed those stairs.

I remember seeing this at the theater when it first came out. A crack of light showing through underneath a doorway has terrified me ever since.

Yesterday upon the stair
I met a man who wasn’t there
He wasn’t there again today
I wish, I wish he’d go away
When I came home last night at three
The man was waiting there for me
But when I looked around the hall
I couldn’t see him there at all!
Go away, go away, don’t you come back any more!
Go away, go away, and please don’t slam the door
Last night I saw upon the stair
A little man who wasn’t there
He wasn’t there again today
Oh, how I wish he’d go away
“Antigonish” (1899)
And one of Mearns’ parodies of this poem
As I was falling down the stair
I met a bump that wasn’t there;
It might have put me on the shelf
Except I wasn’t there myself.
Actually reading the post title, I was expecting the Clint Eastwood produced movie of the same title.
Which is based on or inspired by a real horror event from 1928, when a child disappeared. Taken by people that had kidnapped, molested and murdered 3 boys. The mother abused by authorities, thrown into a mental hospital, when she refused to accept a different boy who claimed to be her missing son.

One of the best scenes in any horror film. I was never crazy about how it ended tho’.
