The Weapon No Soldier Wants To Carry – IOTW Report

The Weapon No Soldier Wants To Carry

The army is having a hard time figuring out how to deploy the XM25 Counter Defilade Target Engagement System or “Punisher” for short. At $93,000 apiece, the weapon and its ammunition is heavy and not suitable for close engagement (where most soldiers fight their battles). Designed as a smart grenade launcher that can penetrate hiding places and take out enemies behind cover, no soldiers in the field want to carry the thing.

Meanwhile the army has spent $33 million so far on the program and expects to spend another $100 developing it in the next 5 years.

  1. what’s the big deal? it’s a semi-automatic & only holds 5 rounds (in a ‘clip’, I guess) … not like one of those ‘assault’ weapons

besides, I don’ trust any decision that comes from the Obama Pentagon

  2. The Gun Shop near Lazlo has a Maxim Gun.
They let me stare at it longingly, while I am in there.
That took 3 people to carry it, plus water.
    The base weighs forty pounds.
Send me one with a pile of ammo,
I will carry it around to see if this report has any merit.

  3. Everyone is missing one thing: Obama has denigrated the military, by lowering the physical minimum standards to allow the army to be ‘gentrified’ with transgenders, all types of ‘uniform’ exceptions, safe zones, and yes, even women who can’t carry the load, & etc.

Anyone who wants want to be in the military, welcome! Just don’t lower the well vetted physical, moral, and intellect standards.

Can you imagine the chaos of commanding a unit of soldiers, having to make exceptions? You’d be overwhelmed by the enemy, before you got a cohesive fighting unit of , maybe 3, ready. Ugh, I really dislike the current idiot in command.

  4. @ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ – The gun itself isn’t exactly svelte, but the kicker is that each round weighs a little over a half pound. The way I see it is if there isn’t a nifty combat robot to carry and wield this thing, then a squad could use a few of those cute Boston Dynamics robot dogs to schlep the gun and a bunch of ammo around. The stereotypical dog brings Dad’s slippers and newspaper to him, and the New! Improved! dog could bring the XM25 and a bandoleer of ammo… (-:

  5. So could a version of that be mounted in a vehicle? Like ..oh I don’t know maybe the front a pickup truck that often finds itself behind some noob going 55 in the left lane? I’m asking for a friend.

  6. I hear the Poles have developed a new weapon called the Vlasic 250, so named because of its maximum sustained fire rate of 250 shitpickles per minute (250 SPPM). It’s designed for Claussenfantry support.

    😝

  7. Today’s Infantryman is already weighed down with so much it is hard to run 100 meters on flat terrain without being exhausted afterward. On average 62lbs of basic gear is carried by each man: Helmet, rifle, ammo, mollie carrier system with armor plates, water, frag, smoke, night vision, bayonet, compass, and communication equipment. Then everyone gets belts for the MG’s and the special tools are handed out.
