Oh, in 2015, there have been 34 shootings within 2 miles of where Obama made his presidential victory speech – Grant Park.

  1. 3 weeks ago – next door- black renters – drug deal gone bad – .45 through the eyeball.

    Lived in my neighborhood 52 years and as soon as a black family rents the recently deceased homeowners house next to us…BANG.

    Don’t tell me race has nothing to do with it.

  2. 10 miles from town I’d say 15 miles from here.

    A 23-year-old resident of the Reservation was home after being out deer hunting. His sister walks up to where he was standing near his truck and tells him she had a fight with her boy friend. He takes his deer rifle out, walks down the road, finds the boy friend and shots him.

    The young man is being held on $1 million bail at the County jail.

  4. I must be living somewhere in an anomaly. My county has no shooting at all. With a population of >80k we must be doing something wrong….although the next county over has (about 35 miles from my humble abode) has 2 shootings, one fatal, of home invaders.
    …oh, wait…there was one accidental suicide 25 miles from me, in my county….that these morons classify as a ‘murder’

    Not sure how accurate these statistics are; last sumer a home owner just down the road saved the Parish the cost of a trial by bringing to an abrupt end the career of 2 burglars with a shotgun.

  6. 1 fatality. A black Oakland resident had car trouble on the way to Tahoe as he passed through our community. He waited out side a local restaurant and shot some poor young women in the head and stole her car. He made it about five miles before he crashed and was arrested.

  9. 21 shootings within 1-mile radius. 13 fatal, 8 non-fatal. Closest was 0.15 miles away.

    This was a bit shocking to me as I live in a fairly upscale neighborhood, and thought this number would be more representative of a say, neighborhood in notorious SE. Boy was I wrong.

    But hey, I live in the District where it’s nearly impossible to obtain a gun and even harder to get a permit to legally own one.

    There has been an uptick in home robberies, stolen mail and people sitting in cars who obviously don’t live around here.

    Our neighbors are pretty good about letting each other know if somethings up…excluding my hippie neighbor who steals our pears.

  20. Well populated suburban area in NJ: There has been 1 shooting within a 3-mile radius of this point in the past year, 0 fatal and 1 non-fatal. The closest shooting was 2.82 miles away.

  22. The problem with the map is it doesn’t tell you if the shooting was a thug shooting an innocent. A suicide. A thug shooting another thug. Or a good guy taking out a thug who needed to be shot.

  23. There was a snow ball fight in 54. I was part of it. The cops drove by and we blasted the cruiser.
    I got my ass tanned. It was my uncle driving.

    I think in the 80’s someone shot out a street light. I swear it wasn’t me.

  25. 1 fatal. It was on national news for a week. A woman was friends/neighbors with the druggie teen that shot her. They said she was trying to counsel him and keep him out of trouble or something. Then it got messy – He’s in jail for life.

    1 not fatal. Someone tried to rob a house and got shot for his trouble.

    Just about every house in my area is armed.
    You think the odds are against you when you gamble onThe Strip? Try your luck doing something crazy in my neighborhood. lol.

  30. A murder/suicide about 15 miles away. I live in a rural/semi-rural area, 96% white, 2% black, 2% Asian.

    The couple was in their 60’s and had 12 year old adopted special needs daughter. How the heck people in their 60’s were able to adopt a child is beyond me.
    None of their neighbors knew they had a kid. He shot the wife and kid and then killed himself. The usual everyone said they were a nice happy couple.

    In the 30 years we’ve lived here there has been one shooting murder. Gang bangers from the city carrying on a feud with a family that had moved.
    There have been less than 5 murders here. Teen killed her new born, lunatic blew up his house with his kid in it, the murder/suicide.

  31. There have been 2 shootings within a 2-mile radius of this point in the past year, 1 fatal and 1 non-fatal. The closest shooting was 1.29 miles away.

    Since this is a rare instance around here I would have thought I would have remembered that but I can’t recall it happening.

  33. One non-fatal, police-involved shooting of a “perpetrator” within 3 miles, and one fatal shooting of a felon just outside 3 miles. And I think those are pretty rare. Or they just don’t report them in the paper, because I didn’t know about those two shootings.

  34. The interactive map was interesting but the site is EXTREMELY anti-gun. I live in the sticks so we don’t have many shootem up out here. What would be more helpful would be to show the urban gun related incidents compared to the rural gun incidents. Here in Connecticut (the UN-Constitution State), most of the gun violence is confined to our capital, Hartford, and other sanctuary cities like Bridgeport and New Haven, all controlled by Prog-Democrats by the way.

    We do have some murder history near by, though:

    In 1996 Danny Lee and Chevie Kehoe murdered the Mueller family after stealing their firearms. They put plastic bags over their heads and dumped them off a bridge not far from where I live.

    Around Christmas 1987, the mass murderer Ronald Gene Simmons killed 16 people, 14 of which were his family members.
    My sister’s kids were friends of some of the murdered children and used to ride the bus to school with them. The family lived within a mile or two of my sister’s house.
