Trump team celebrates trial date for Mar-a-Lago documents case

U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon’s decision to schedule former President Donald Trump’s trial for May of next year received a warm response from the Republican’s team on Friday.

Cannon determined that the trial would start May 20, 2024. Trump faces 37 counts related to his alleged mishandling of classified documents and has pleaded not guilty. Special counsel Jack Smith, whom Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed last November, had hoped to begin proceedings much earlier.

A Trump campaign spokesperson told The Hill that the trial state signaled “a major setback to the DOJ’s crusade to deny President Trump a fair legal process.” Smith had requested a December start date while the Trump team sought a delay to better prepare.

The “extensive schedule allows President Trump and his legal team to continue fighting this empty hoax,” the spokesperson added. more

  3. Megyn Kelly routinely has trial lawyers on her show to discuss the current legal issues and for the last few weeks, the subject has been Trump’s indictments. The general consensus, almost to a man, is that there is no way any of these trials will commence before the election. The Trump lawyers will want the continuances and the gov. prosecution lawyers won’t object because they got what they wanted, the specter of criminality hanging over Trump in the public eye like the sword of Damocles.

  5. I’m betting most of this stuff get tossed out once Trumps Lawyers are in Chambers BEFORE they actual Trial Starts. Some Stuff will be Inadmissible & then the whole lump of shit gets Tossed.

    This is about reputation tarnishing NOT the actual Law.

    All trump has to say is I declassified it VERBALLY, and showing a reporter a paper that could not have been read in 2 minutes is not sharing classified shit.

  9. As far as public opinion goes, I think Fat Alvin screwed the pooch when he went after Trump for the bullshit Stormy charge.
    The Feds know this and they know their reputation is dirt now so I’m curious to see how it plays out.
    I read that the assholes in Atlanta are prepping their indictment.

    So, we have Stormy, Classified docs, Jan6, & election interference as the trumped up charges?
