There is absolutely nothing wrong with a president telling a company that they should stay because they are going to be pleased with the changes he makes that will be attractive to companies concerned with there bottom line.
I’m already hearing cynics say that this is not “conservative” because it’s meddling in the marketplace.
NO IT IS NOT. It is removing impediments and barriers that were erected by former administrations. If that’s “meddling” than the cynics should be prepared for the status quo, because whatever they have in mind would be characterized as “meddling,” no?
From the earliest days of his campaign, Donald J. Trump made keeping manufacturing jobs in the United States his signature economic issue, and the decision by Carrier, the big air-conditioner company, to move over 2,000 of them from Indiana to Mexico was a tailor-made talking point for him on the stump.
On Thursday, Mr. Trump and Mike Pence, Indiana’s governor and the vice president-elect, plan to appear at Carrier’s Indianapolis factory to announce a deal with the company to keep roughly 1,000 jobs in the state, according to officials with the transition team as well as Carrier.
Mr. Trump will be hard-pressed to alter the economic forces that have hammered the Rust Belt for decades, but forcing Carrier and its parent company, United Technologies, to reverse course is a powerful tactical strike that will hearten his followers even before he takes office.
“I’m ready for him to come,” said Robin Maynard, a 24-year veteran of Carrier who builds high-efficiency furnaces and earns almost $24 an hour as a team leader. “Now I can put my daughter through college without having to look for another job.”
It also signals that Mr. Trump is a different kind of Republican, willing to take on Big Business, at least in individual cases.
And just as only a confirmed anti-Communist like Richard Nixon could go to China, so only a businessman like Mr. Trump could take on corporate America without being called a Bernie Sanders-style socialist. If Barack Obama had tried the same maneuver, he’d probably have drawn criticism for intervening in the free market.
In exchange for keeping the factory running in Indianapolis, Mr. Trump and Mr. Pence are expected to reiterate their campaign pledges to be friendlier to businesses by easing regulations and overhauling the corporate tax code, according to a spokeswoman for Mr. Trump.
The message from Mr. Trump that captivated the Carrier workers — keeping manufacturing jobs in the United States after decades of losses to overseas factories and automation — resonated throughout the Rust Belt. That promise, plus his opposition to free trade pacts like Nafta, were key reasons he was able to edge out Hillary Clinton in traditionally Democratic states like Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin and capture the White House.

If the “can do, will do” attitude of Donald Trump isn’t to your liking, then FU.
“I’m already hearing cynics say that this is not “conservative” because it’s meddling in the marketplace”
Fuck Conservatives. Start with Levin. We need a new name for ourselves. Conservatives, consider this, DJT has NOT taken office yet and he’s saved more jobs than Bush 2 and Obama combined. Some bodies got shut that retard Levin up. GO.
Not waiting for January to start maki g America Great Again.
If conservatives say that this is meddling in the marketplace, they are fools. Politicians make promises during the campaign and then after elected, weasel out. Trump put forth a 100-day plan AFTER he got elected that sounded like angels singing on high to Carrier. This included much of what he promised pre-election in Gettysburg. That is why they are now leaning towards staying.
Fromm 100-day Plan (November 21, 2016):
“Whether it’s producing steel, building cars, or curing disease, I want the next generation of production and innovation to happen right here, in our great homeland: America — creating wealth and jobs for American workers,” Trump said in the two-and-a-half-minute video statement. “As part of this plan, I’ve asked my transition team to develop a list of executive actions we can take on day one to restore our laws and bring back our jobs.”
You are right Brad, levin is going to start trouble every time he sees a chance, even if he has to invent the chance. I see Trump as the Tea Party candidate we never had the chance to nominate. As far as I’m concerned he could take the oath of office in a Minuteman uniform, complete with a three corner hat.
Corporate tax cuts, regulation cuts, what’s not to love?!
It isn’t meddling to get government off the backs of business. And it was government regs and tax and UN agenda crap that makes many companies move, not just wages. So it is conservative to its core what Trump is saying.
Joe6pak, I guess we’re gun toting capitalist. Fucking Levins out with a new critique. I had to stop reading as I felt the veins poking out of my neck. Levin should go accomplish something in the private sector before he decides to throw shit at maybe the best Biz Guy ever. Everyone hates a critique.
I say screw you Carrier, Ford, GM and all the others that have moved jobs and manufacturing elsewhere. Personally, I’d like to see the Trump administration help out the “little guy” to build new companies, new ideas, and hire Americans. It’s time that we bring back “Made in America” Manufacturing. We should impose tariff’s and higher taxes on all imported goods. Let’s rebuild, re-tool and do this. this is the perfect opportunity for all of this to happen.
Bonus.. I’ll slap Obama right across the face. They Built it!!
Ok help me out here. What has Levin said that has you railed up?
I don’t have Sirius radio in my house, only in my car. I haven’t heard ML for 2 or three weeks.
I’ve not heard anything that would lead me to think he would be opposed to tax & over regulation reduction. But as mentioned I don’t hear his show often anymore because I’m seldom driving around at 6pm.
I don’t know if it’s on the linked story, but 5% (10%?) of Carrier’s business under another umbrella company builds jet engines used by the DoD.
Has anyone read the tonnage of regulations over HVAC and refrigerants? It’s a real snooze to most of us but would be a chronicle of horror to those in the industry — from CEO’s to the guy who fixes your car’s AC. (!) Look them up sometime just to gauge the mire of regulations over American business and why deregulation is such a big issue.
I’m a conservative. Back at’cha.
I might be a Capitalist Libertarian. Don’t fuck with my guns, keep the jobs here, don’t screw with my freedom.
As for Levin – Whiners gotta whine.
So, are these “conservatives” saying that Trump will be meddling in business, if he gets a tax code that stops meddling in business?
Wut?
They’ve labeled themselves as conservatives. Got a vote Cruz, he’s the only “real conservative”. Could’nt get elected if his life depended on it. But no matter, he’s a real conservative. Real conservatives include Mitt “blow job” Romney, Mark Levin, Teddy Cruz, oh and Glenn Beck. I’m not digging the company I keep if I’m a conservative.
Levin is Glenn Becking himself into a corner.
I’m already hearing cynics say that this is not “conservative” because it’s meddling in the marketplace.
Well then, it’s not conservative. Whopty fuckin do.
FUCK CARRIER, buy a Trane

Here is what Levin said: Nothing negative against Trump He called it Capitalism. Same old Dbags that post Cruz & Levin suck without doing any research. Low information voters.
Teh Trumpster is getting stuff done before he’s even inaugurated. That’s fun.
@JTucker Thank you. Mark Levin was indeed completely supportive of Trump’s plan to cut regulations & taxes, and simplifying corp. tax code. And his cutback on threats to start a tariff war.
iow more candy, less stick to persuade companies to keep jobs here.
The only Trump criticism I heard was to point out that Trump’s transition team leaks like a sieve and Trump needs to get it under control
Blink you are welcome! Lets post comments that are actually true!
many people who post here are worst than the MSM.
All the lefts predictions have proven false; everything Trump has said has been proven true.
Don’t libtards ever get tired of being wrong?
