Trust the Science! – Baby aspirin no longer recommended to prevent first heart attack in older adults

Yahoo-

People over the age of 60 should no longer consider taking a daily low-dose or baby aspirin to prevent a first heart attack or stroke, according to a draft recommendation issued by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force Tuesday.

The announcement marks a change in the 2016 Task Force guidance that recommended aspirin therapy in certain men and women to lower cardiovascular risk. But more recent evidence suggests it also could cause harm, including bleeding in the stomach, intestines, and brain – a risk that increases with age and can be life-threatening.

The task force said people ages 40 to 59 who are at higher risk for cardiovascular disease should decide with their clinician whether to start taking aspirin. Once they turn 60, they should not start taking it because the risk of bleeding cancels the benefits of preventing heart disease.

The new recommendation only applies to people who are not already taking a daily aspirin. Doctors have long recommended daily low-dose aspirin for many patients who have had a heart attack or stroke. The task force guidance does not change that advice.

“Daily aspirin use may help prevent heart attacks and strokes in some people, but it can also cause potentially serious harms, such as internal bleeding,” said task force member Dr. John Wong, a primary-care expert at Tufts Medical Center. “It’s important that people who are 40 to 59 years old and don’t have a history of heart disease have a conversation with their clinician to decide together if starting to take aspirin is right for them.”

  1. “…have a conversation with their clinician to decide together if…”

Yeah, you know, a doctor/patient decision between the two people who best know what an individual’s specific health needs and concerns are.

Like we USED to do until Democrats decided that illegitimately installed senile pedophiles could order us to poison ourselves any time they lose patience with us.

  2. My doctor wanted me on aspirin for slightly elevated blood pressure and cholesterol. Also wanted me on cholesterol meds and high blood pressure meds even though neither are high enough to warrant meds. I told em to go screw on all 3. Still alive 4 years later.

  3. Translation, some pharma wants to sell a significantly more expensive pill for the same thing that will not be as effective and will cost significantly more. Syntex, the original maker of Aleve, artificial estrogen, and the birth control pill, went from the top of the pharma food chain to bankruptcy in ten years by pursuing a similar compound called Ticlopidine, which cost $5 per pill, worked half as good as aspirin, and caused Leukemia in 1% of the patients receiving the drug.

But in the new, improved Washington, DC, you just pump out fake studies, and bribe the right people, and the FDA will be ordered whatever bat semen or coyote piss you’re passing off as a pharmaceutical. Pay enough bribes, and they’ll call a mandate for people to get it.

  4. The majority of my adult life has been a roller coaster of ‘this thing is good for you’ to be followed up later by, ‘that same thing is not good for you’.

Follow the money is very much in play.

  5. Good thing they give me BABY aspirin as opposed to “Superheavyweight Powerlifter” aspirin, cause even if I have these side effects, they’ll be BABY side effects. The dosage is just too small to concern me

Also, this article appeared in Yahoo Medicine, not necessarily the last word in anything

  6. The timing of this is suspect considering the potential benefit against the jab. I think I’ll keep it in my covid response kit anyway along with my Lugol’s and H2O2 treatments.

  7. Drs. back in the 50’s prescribed Thalidomide for nausea to pregnant mothers’ also recommended smoking to control weight while pregnant.
Pardon me for thinking Drs. aren’t as infallible as they would have us believe.

  8. At 60 years and 6 months I got a blood clot on the right side of my heart. They threw in 4 stents and told me I was good as new. Kinda wish I would have started that aspirin at age 60.

  9. They say chocolate is good for your heart. Not sure if it’s from medical science or Chocolateers, however. There was also a study once that found people who ate chocolate their whole lives lived 1+ years longer. (But the way that’s phrased, it sounds like they asked the question post mortem! 🙂 )

  10. Aspirin prevents the coof, now I heard it all, ha ha ha ha…yeah right
But I do take something to thin my blood, 100 proof alcohol.
No more nsaids for me, high blood pressure, so tylenol it is & there goes the liver. No more diet pop either, new study says it’s far worst then regular pop, for me it’s ice tea.

  11. I take a baby aspirin everyday for over 12 years because I have a blood mutation which causes blood clots to form. I’m going out tomorrow and buying a few cases of them. They will take them off the shelves now that they know they have scared us all enough who do take it, not to take it and go for the other prescribed meds that cost $$$ and so many side effects!!!

    Say your prayers everyday!!

    God Bless us all!
