University of Florida students received emails encouraging them NOT to pay rent

Campus Reform: University of Florida student and 3-year apartment resident Victoria Someillan was intrigued when the words “COVID-19 RENT STRIKE NOW” appeared in her email inbox on Monday morning.

“This is something that’s been talked a lot between my friends and I…seeing someone take the initiative to contact students is very thoughtful,” Someillan told Campus Reform.

Someillan was pleasantly surprised when University of Florida Student Government Senator Zachariah Chou sent out an email Monday morning discussing the topic of rent relief for UF students. The email encouraged students to send emails to Gov. Ron DeSantis and proposed a rent strike in the local community of Gainesville, Florida. Additionally, the email emphasized how many college students are being forced to pay their rent on off-campus housing during the coronavirus pandemic, which has caused many students to return home for the semester.

On March 11, the University of Florida sent out an email encouraging students to “return home until March 30” as all classes moved online. Many students living in off-campus housing were faced with the decision of staying in Gainesville or going back home to live with their parents.

Some students who chose to return home due to COVID-19 were frustrated, however, when their landlords refused to offer any rent relief or changes to leasing contracts. One student, Sarah Lobo, took the initiative to create her own petition and share her story. The petition has amassed more than 11,500 signatures so far. read more

  1. And then rob the local C-store, steal a car, and stiff the young girl who just brought your pizza order by slamming your stolen apartment door in her face.

All thieves like, like all democrat politicians want to be a lot more than equal to the other poor slobs who have to work for their money.

  3. Everyone knows those landlords got those apartment buildings when Santa brought them on Christmas Day. It’s not as if they still have to pay mortgages, taxes, or anything.

  4. Sounds good. After their evictions maybe then they can use the money they saved to buy a plane ticket back to daddy’s and mommy’s house and explain how unfair real life is.

  5. These kids don’t understand how the real world works (duh). Unfortunately, they will probably vote for similarly ignorant, dishonest, and power-hungry politicians who will try to change the world to suit them all rather than teach people that TANSTAAFL.

“There Ain’t No Such Thing As A Free Lunch” for any noobs here.

  6. Rent is a contract you enter into. You can go try to renegotiate but telling people just ignore your contractual responsibilities is so dam irresponsible I’d suggest one of these litigious lawyers jump in. Good lesson to learn. We honored our contracts after the revolutionary war, be adults and figure it out.

  7. Send the bill to their state governor that shut down the economy. Or pay the bill you signed your name onto a contract. Signatures have consequences.

  8. Put yer retirement fund in cigarettes.

Screw the health nazis. The third world is into stress relief.

Personally I’d like to head to Venezuela with a steamer trunk full of smokes and waterglassed eggs. Pretty sure I could retire again off the proceeds.

    > They’re about to get a lesson in economics that should make a very deep impression and won’t soon be forgot.

    We can hope!

(At least until our beardy, future, overlords get off the fasting pot. And, actually, start some beheadings.

Rock the catbox! Rock the catbox!)

  10. Burn it all fucking down. Then see if there is anything worth rebuilding from the ashes. Maybe the intent was good when all this shit was thought of and enacted a piece at a time, but the end result if absolutely horrible. So, yea, Burn it all fucking down.

Why, Mr. Galt! Look at your shiny bowtie!

(That look will will, surely, draw all the screeching lesbians to the Gulch.)

  12. Wish they’d come up with something similar for property owners and property taxes. I’m seriously considering not paying property taxes this year and see how long before I get hauled out of my paid for property at gun point. Why should I pay property taxes? The kids aren’t in school, the parks are closed, the cops let people out of prison, the library is closed, the pensions are defaulting, the airports are shut down, road construction is halted, the city tells me I can’t do anything but sit at home. That’s it. My only benefit is the water commission that has NO LEVY because I pay a monthly water bill. Why the fuck should I pay property taxes?

  13. I think that we are all in a similar situation and everyone needs money. I think there should be about some discount but not free living. I’m a student and try to earn money by writing some content for writix, and other essay writing services. I think that everyone can find something like this one https://writix.co.uk/ and earn money for basic needs. If you’re professional or at least have good skills in something then you can turn it into money.
