VA Watchdog Promised To Stop Misleading Congress, Then Rewrote Report To Hide Misconduct

DC: One week after promising to keep Congress and the public “fully and currently” informed, the Inspector General (IG) of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) rewrote a report to remove evidence that a senior VA executive tried to steer a massive government contract to her husband’s employer.

Laura Eskenazi, then-vice chairman of the Board of Veterans Appeals (BVA), “misused her public office” by plotting with her husband Jonathan to develop a plan that could lead to a major financial “opportunity” for CACI, a government contractor that employed him. Eskenazi then sought to cover it up with “dubious” claims, according to a 49-page draft version of the IG report that was obtained by The Daily Caller News Foundation Investigative Group (TheDCNF).

But the version given Congress and the public was only 10 pages discussing an unrelated and less serious rumor about Eskenazi, which the IG said it “did not substantiate.” Nothing was said in the final version about the contracting issue.

  1. Don’t care whether they are dems or pubs, whoever is involved should be arrested and charged, immediately.
Surely, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Now multiply this same corruption across the Federal spectrum of agencies and, well…
    This shitz gotta stop.
Geeze, no wonder Trump is being so vehemently opposed by so many on both sides!

  2. Just to round out your fuller understanding of the crimes committed against our VA, here is another related article about a woman who obama appointed in the waning days of his admin whose appointment seems only to have been to continue obscuring the truth of the corruption there:

Carol DiBattiste also worked for a big data company who sold products to the federal gov’t.

I hope we can expect Secy David Shulkin to get to the bottom of all this, but I have my concerns about him. He oversaw the work of that woman who failed at the VA (I think it was PA) who was then moved to AZ to clean up their mess and it was she who then screwed up (or at least didn’t clean up) the AZ VA. This is such an important piece of the fed budget and care for our vets, Trump has to nail this.

  3. Just a small glimpse of the rampant corruption which IS the Federal Government.
The fact that these kinds of things are “debated” by the Congress, swept under the rug, and the fact that no one is arrested, tried, and convicted of corruption, and the taxpayers’ money recouped is proof positive of that corruption.
How much did we recoup from Solyndra?
    How much from GM?
    How much from Ener1?
How much from failed “Wind Farms?”
How much? Yada, yada, yada … the beat goes on …

That it is allowed to happen goes all the way to the highest levels of the bureaucracy – and only a fool thinks this is an aberration.

  4. “It’s going to take an army of prosecutors to clean up this mess.”

“It’s going to take an army to clean up this mess.”

    Fixed it for ya …
