What would you buy, if there were no restrictions whatsoever?

guns

Jon Stokes has written about Smart Guns technology for the tech blog TechCrunch (warning: his article is a political, this blog post is not). He brings up an excellent point: to what extent are guns designed around laws, rather than the what the market or gun designers would prefer. Jon writes …

As long as we live in a world where a millimeter of barrel length separates a highly restricted “short-barreled rifle” from a regular rifle, and where a plastic gun handle is willfully misidentified as a dangerous aid for mass killers — in other words, where people who know zero about firearms nonetheless continue to design them through legislation — smart gun technology will be a bona fide existential threat to non-smart-guns, and people who don’t want to buy smart guns will do everything they can to strangle the technology in the cradle.

  1. @The Rat Fink:

Uncle Al – Whut’s a belt of ammo for that thing cost?? (I shudder to think)

It’s a bootstrap sort of thing. I’d need to shell out (!) a grand or two, and then I could “liberate” more ammo from the govt – who after all bought it with stolen money, some of it mine. Clear conscience!

  2. M41A Pulse Rifle or a Westinghouse M-27 Phased Plasma rifle in the 40 watt range.

Actually, I’d want an M4a1 SOPMOD with an assortment of uppers and suppressors…it’s Barbie doll for men.

  3. The gun I would buy hasn’t been made because of restrictions. To summarize its restricted potential, it’s racist, full of hate, doesn’t give concern in safe zones, always hits the target, and it never needs reloading. Oh, and it’s full auto so I can’t be held personally accountable.

  4. Two dozen M-29 Davy Crockett Weapon Systems? [Google it.]

Probably I’d actually only get a AWC take-down Ruger 10/22 with an integral suppressor. Maybe a Ruger .22 pistol with an integral suppressor, too. Maybe a couple of short barrel Benelli shotguns.

If Obama is paying, there is some other stuff I’d get, too . . .

  5. Can I get more than one? Yes? Well for starters, a 45 caliber Thompson with a drum magazine, an AK-47 for those times when you just can’t clean your gun (I’m in Connecticut so I can’t “legally” own one now).
That’s for starters. Have to think about what else for a while.

  6. Unlimited budget?

M134D Dillon Aero version of MiniGun. Don’t bother with the earlier A, B or C versions, the feeder-delinker mechanism is a massive headache

    Carl Gustav recoilless

    Maybee some RPG-7s

Any Browning machine gun (M2, M1919)

FGM-148 Javelin (1 CLU with a few missiles … just in case the S really HTF)

    120mm Mortar

  7. All I want is a canon.
    A big one.
    Huge is good.
A canon that takes something substantial to haul it around.
I shall place it facing the main gate.
Then I’m going to empty my change jars and go to the thrift store and buy up all the old eating utensils. Forks, knives, ladles, pie servers, old beater blades, the lids off salt shakers and .
First in goes Senor Chubby Charge.
Then the wadding (I have my eye on some cushions and couch pillows around the house)
Then about ten to fifteen pounds of thrift store flatware.
The object is to let them get close enough to see their reaction to my outfit before letting fly.
    So, a canon.

  8. I’d settle for a M60E4 or a M240B, maybe a nice MK-19 because a belt fed grenade launcher is a party starter. If we are just being fantastical, gimme a quad .50 AA setup and enough ammo and barrels to keep it running for a couple hours.

  9. Brad- what’s that optic comparable to? Say in terms of an aimpoint M3 or EOTech? apart from cost- which is obviously not in the same league. Inquiring minds want to know.

  10. I like all of the responses so far but I think most miss the point. if there aren’t restrictions, why hasn’t anyone included all of the awesome accessories that make these wonderful weapons truly devastating? Surely that 155 howitzer would be more lethal with a huge, serrated bayonet on the end of that muzzlebreak. and forget the minigun unless you have a pistol grip and an adjustable stock on it, just won’t be as effective. And MUST have all of these loaded up with cop killing hollow point wooden bullets, because wood bullets don’t show up on airport metal detectors and are more dangerous because we have to kill trees to make them so climate change, etc. [obligatory massive SARC tag, right here—-> /S]

  11. I just want to buy my son his first pistol, since getting his permit; a Springfield XD Mod2. I might be able to snag one when I get back home later this week.

For myself, I’m wanting a Kel-Tec Sub 2000 (gen 2) in .40 cal, set up for the Glock mags. I had a first gen version but had to part with it. After that, a mini-14 and lots of ammo and I’m good.

  12. A pair of Beretta 93r’s, an M-16 with a Beowolf upper, Another M-16 in .338 Lapua . Maybe a pair of Glock 18’s I was going to add the 700 nitro express.. but that one isn’t banned..

  13. Sapper Chris. I think they were going after the Trijcon MRO market. But that’s $600.00 with the base. The MRO is a two MOA dot, Black Spider is a thee.

  14. Hell, I can only afford what I already own. If money were not a barrier I would ask for something I could safely drive to Washington DC when I file my complaints:

M1A2 Abrams Main Battle Tank …

    *1500 HP Gas Turbine
    *120mm XM256 Smooth Bore Cannon
    *7.62 M240 coaxial Machine gun
    * .50 cal M2 Machine gun

    Fully loaded.

You want a Nuke? I don’t think that qualifies as a “GUN”.

What if he puts a plastic handle on it and a shoulder thingy that goes up?

Remember: No restrictions! Who are you to say what isn’t a gun when no rules apply? ?

Fire it from a ship’s gun then!
