“Who Will Mow Their Lawns?”

PJ Media

The article [in the New York Times] is entitled “They Help Make the Hamptons the Hamptons, and Now They’re Living in Fear.” The subtitle reads “Latino immigrants care for some of America’s most lavish beachside mansions. Their disappearance would affect the wealthy, too.” But wait, it gets better. The article begins:

The party dresses must be double-pressed, the hedges shaved into sharp rectangles. The hand soap and lotion dispensers must be formed into neat lines along bathroom sinks. Caterers need to slip out of view as soon as the oysters and cocktails are served.

Wealthy residents of the Hamptons demand perfection. Now, many of the people who make it so — Latino immigrants, some of them undocumented — are panicking about President Trump’s deportation orders.

It goes on with great quotes like this one: “Some of the wealthy are quietly beginning to make calculations about what it would mean if their undocumented workers were deported. Who would mow the lawn?” More

  1. If people like the Obumbles who live in the Hamptons would actually pay living wages for their landscape and home workers instead of 1/2 of Federal Minimum Wage to the ILLEGALS, they would have plenty LEGAL Immigrants plus U.S. Citizens willing to do these jobs and end up with better quality work than the ILLEGALS gave them in the first place.

  2. Interesting comments. Here’s some anecdotal spin. I live on a cul de sac. 6 homes. Median home price is 2 mil plus right now. Our neighbors, Hispanic, are our fav neighbors. He’s a manufacturing engineer, she in sales. They do ok. Everyone else in the hood are “professional peeps”. Our pals and us are the only ones that do our own landscaping. We both enjoy the hell out of it. I think it’s has to do a lot with how we were raised. We have neighbors we see once a year when they venture out to inspect their driveway. I work way to much. But I look forward to working on my yard. We’ve had some epic cook outs with our pals. I dunno. I think these other neighbors are missing out. However a couple of them are so fat they’d vapor lock trying to cut their own lawns. I dunno. I miss the 80’s.

  3. PS, my wife just wondered inside after stacking a cord of wood while I cook dinner. I’m a little worried about my masculinity. And yes she does a much better job stacking that shit than I do. It’s art for her. LOL

  4. EXACTLY.

It’s pretty funny the NYT would be so blatantly tummy upset about rich people losing a source of cheap labor from immigrant people that mostly won’t complain.

I expect one of their upcoming Op-eds to be titled: Maybe We Don’t Really Need Any More Immigrants.

  5. They could try their hands at farming or downsize to a smaller house. Maybe not helicopter back and forth in the summertime. They’re not the only people who live in the Hamptons either. There are a few middle class townspeople who live there year round.
