According to Michael Barone, the gentry liberal are all what’s left of the Democratic Party –Here 

But just who are these “gentry liberal?” I find the best way to describe them is to  paraphrase the old Jeff Foxworthy riff.

-If you oppose national borders yet demand urban planning protect your city from over-development, you might be a gentry liberal.

-If you believe abortion save lives, you might be a gentry liberal.

-If you moved into a working class neighborhood to be hip then protest the lack of low income housing, you might be a gentry liberal.

-If you voted for Obama because he’d heal the nation’s racial divisions and Hillary because it was a woman’s turn, you might be a gentry liberal.

-If you believe disarming law abiding citizens will make you safer, you might be a gentry liberal.

-If you want to force children to eat arugula at school and bakers to make gay wedding cakes, you might be a gentry liberal.

-If you believe you have the right not to be offended, you might be a gentry liberal.

  4. The gentry, being of a high social position, are the bleeding heart socialists who have benefited the most from capitalism.

    They are also the upper end of democrats who insist the working middle class support and pay for wasteful government programs for those who refuse to work for a living.

    The thinking and working democrats who were being fleeced became enlightened and voted for Trump.

    All that is left in the democrat party are the users, abusers, losers, misinformed, socialists, marxists, communists and the gentry.

  12. I live in a gentry neighborhood in OhStink TexAss — as former Governor Rick Perry put it, the blueberry in the tomato soup. In this neighborhood we have MANY “Black Lives Matter” signs; and yet, blacks make up only ~1% of the population, as opposed to the entirety of Austin where blacks account for a gentrified ~7%, as opposed to the national black average of ~12%, (which would be MUCH higher if not for Governor Ann Richards daughter.)

  13. If you believe federal tax reform is Armageddon because you lost your deduction for State and Local Taxes and you won’t see the kinds of savings those in lower taxed states will enjoy, you might be a gentry liberal.

  17. What is it with this ‘gentry’ crap all of a sudden? Here in Cincinnati, the city is trying to court an FC/MLS endorsement. On the bottom of the list is a West End ‘hood. Keep in mind this would bring LOTS of infrastructure, jobs, ect to the area, but the ‘black leaders’ don’t want that gentri-fu-cay-shun. They ain’t playin’. *eye roll* Guess that would dry up the idiot’s perpetual victim gravy train job up…

    These are the same morons that didn’t want Cinci Children’s hospital, which does ENORMOUS work in the whole area expanded because they were willing to buy out a ghetto for more than market value, because that would also be ‘murdering’ a black neighborhood.

  19. Gentry liberals – coming soon to an area near you. Barone’s article focuses on Chicago, and while it looks like roughly 20,000 more gentry liberals now live in Chicago compared to blacks, overall Chicago has been losing population for many years.

    The gentry liberals’ only solution to the messes they make is to increase taxes. They act surprised when normal folk leave high tax/high regulation areas, but in reality gentry liberals don’t like these things either – particularly when they are the only ones left paying them. Illinois is now the 6th largest state (going the wrong way – it was the 5th largest state), and dropping. Our brilliant solution was to jack up both the personal income tax and corporate income tax rates, which combined with the highest property tax rates in the nation is probably not going to encourage residents or businesses to stay here.

    So a word of caution to the citizens of Texas, Florida, the Carolinas, Arizona, etc. – keep these people out of your state. If you have to choose between stemming the flow of illegal immigrants or gentry liberals, focus on stopping the gentry liberals as they are more dangerous. Check their luggage on entry – too many tight jeans, or a pussy hat, or any Elizabeth Warren stickers should be an automatic denial of entry. Send them to California, Chicago (please don’t pollute downstate Illinois), Washington, Oregon, New York, Connecticut or Massachusetts. If they establish an enclave in your state, quarantine the area immediately. Gentry liberals are an infestation which will ultimately destroy your state.

    NC here. They began invading in a steady stream years ago. The true locals tell me that many of the leftists are plain old New Yorkers and New Jerseyites, typically in their 50s and older but not always, who sold off their homes at a profit and moved south. Whether they bring ALL of their political attitudes with them has to be examined case by case (many sure do) but without doubt ALL of them that I’ve met bring that rotten big city self-righteous contempt for everyone Not Them. Of course that’s typical of all leftists but the invaders, being from New Yawk and points north, are particularly arrogant and unapologetic about it. I am convinced that they KNOW what they are, and don’t care. Or they like it. I cannot stand them; I hate to have to feel the utter loathing the true locals have to live with
