Parents and students sue school for allowing opposite sex in locker rooms and bathrooms.
Transgender students across Oregon should be able to use the bathrooms, names and pronouns they want, according to unprecedented guidelines released Thursday by the Oregon Department of Education.
“Protecting students from inappropriate exposure to the opposite sex is not only perfectly legal, it’sa school district’s duty“, also said ADF Senior Counsel Jeremy Tedesco. “Allowing boys into girls’ locker rooms, a setting where girls are often partially or fully unclothed, is a blatant violation of student privacy”. The Department of Education, through its Civil Rights Office, said any accommodations that are not equal of all other students is not following the letter of the law.
This will come down to defining what constitutes a girl and what constitutes a boy, and the answer is not going to be “whatever I say I am.”
