CNS: A college football or basketball coach was the highest-paid public employee in 39 of the 50 states in 2016. Only four of these coaches earned less than a million dollars last year.
In fact, the average annual compensation package for coaches at major universities is estimated to be $1.18 million.
When the top-paid public employee in a state is not the coach of a college sports team, he or she usually works in the medical field at a university-run hospital or is the head of a university or college.
Here are the top ten coaches who are the highest-paid public employees in their respective states, as reported by ESPN.com:
- Jim Harbaugh, University of Michigan football coach: $9 million,
- John Calipari, University of Kentucky basketball coach: $ 7.1 million,
- Nick Saban, University of Alabama football coach: $6.0 million, MORE
well …. yeah ….
they bring in more money than professors teaching kids how to be snowflakes
… & they don’t get tenure
Clearly, I chose the wrong line of work.
Hey, it’s only tax money….does it really matter?? /s
That’s what I was thinking, Jellybean.
Didn’t I post this story a few years ago?
Even more startling is the list of retired state workers by annual income.
Former gym teachers are making 6 figure pensions in my state with severely underfunded pension funding.
Jim Harbaugh’s Dad was my football coach in the late 60’s in SW Ohio, I should have paid more attention.
I used to be a sports fan. (Not a Sports Fan.)
Not any more.
Never was a fan of any sports. 90% of the players have trouble putting a coherent string of words into a meaningful sentence. Sad, very sad. You know! 😂
This thing called sports? Yeah, NOT!
College football is unconstitutional. It violates the principle of the separation church and state.
You get a seven figure income AND you get to diddle more young boys than a priest.
