Breitbart – “Conservatives don’t want to pay attention to the culture. This is why you keep losing,” said Breitbart News’s Senior Editor-at-Large Rebecca Mansour on Friday’s edition of SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Tonight.
“There are a lot of folks saying, ‘Why are you harping on Hollywood?’” said Mansour.
“Whoever controls the culture,” she explained, “you control the future, you control the dialogue. Conservatives and Republicans, unless you get a handle on the culture, unless you start to be involved in the culture, unless you start to create [and] nurture artists of your own, you’re never going to get anywhere. You’re just going to be standing athwart history shouting, ‘Stop!’ instead of moving history in your direction.”
Mansour used Harriet Beecher Stowe’s novel Uncle Tom’s Cabin as an historical example of the power of a work of popular culture to dramatically affect political change.
Stowe’s novel awakened the broader public to the evil of slavery, not the political activities of the anti-slavery abolitionist movement, explained Mansour:
What was the thing that finally animated the North during the 1850s and 1860s to get behind the Abolitionist Movement? A majority of citizens in the North during the pre-Civil War era were not abolitionists. The abolitionists were kind of kooky people off to the fringe. They were religious people. They were viewed very much the way the pro-life movement is viewed now, ‘Oh, those extremist religious people.’ … The majority of the country just didn’t care [about slavery].
The thing that finally animated it in the minds of the people was when this little lady by the name of Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote a bestselling book called Uncle Tom’s Cabin.

20. Infiltrate the press. Get control of book-review assignments, editorial writing, policy-making positions.
21. Gain control of key positions in radio, TV, and motion pictures.
22. Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all forms of artistic expression. An American Communist cell was told to “eliminate all good sculpture from parks and buildings, substitute shapeless, awkward and meaningless forms.”
23. Control art critics and directors of art museums. “Our plan is to promote ugliness, repulsive, meaningless art.”
24. Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them “censorship” and a violation of free speech and free press.
25. Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio, and TV.
26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as “normal, natural, healthy.”
27. Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with “social” religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity, which does not need a “religious crutch.”
28. Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the ground that it violates the principle of “separation of church and state.”
“Conservatism” is a chimera; it is NOT an ideology, but just a straw-man for the Marxists to highlight their cause against. They want the same things as the Marxists, but merely exist as a foil for Marxism. Read Russel Kirk’s book; he states that conservatism is NOT an ideology!

To some large extent, I’m too busy working and pursuing other interests to devote a lot of time toward the culture wars.
One would think our effectively boycotting their crap, hitting them in the pocketbook best we can, would have an impact. But they are more doggedly pursuing their liberal utopia than a capitalist would expect. Even though CNN ratings are in the toilet, they continue treating us as their enemy.

Agree and disagree. According to the Breitbart article, “you must watch the Oscars.” No, watching the Oscars was not only a monumental waste of my time, but would pad the number of viewers. As it was, ratings were down and this is worrisome to Hollywood.
But I agree that knowledge of the culture is vital. I understand who Madonna is; but purchasing her music is counter-productive to marginalizing this individual. If a film is so overtly progressive that the message overshadows the story, I don’t pay money to see it although I am aware of its existence and content. Similarly, many “free” avenues of entertainment rely upon a sufficient number of viewers in order to justify the cost of production; it is one thing to be aware of what these entertainment vehicles are, but quite another thing to participate in their measure of success by being one of the viewers.
People need to figure out how success is judged or activities monetized, and then attack those angles. It does no good to wail about “Will & Grace” and then watch the show or patronize those advertisers. But you need to know what is culturally relevant to do this.
And just the other day, Jeff Flake told David Axelrod that Republicans lost their way when the waded into the culture wars. Is this idiot ever on the right side?
I’ve always toyed around with the idea of marketing “conservativism” to cultural progressives (people who are superficially connected to progressive thought, but are fundamentally conservative even if they think they are not) through the same kinds of avenues as the food industry. That’s how pork went from being a “bad” food to “the other white meat”, how prunes became “dried plums”, and Patagonian Toothfish became Chilean sea bass. Oh, and canola oil used to be called rapeseed oil. Do you think progressives would be using a product called “rapeseed oil?”
Somehow we’ve gotta come up with a better word for conservatism that will trend with cultural progressives. That’s all the Left did, anyway; they made progressivism a lifestyle choice.
“Culture” can go do a physically impossible act with itself. 😡

The time to do something was 30 years ago you waited too long.
Insist on college classes with a conservative purpose. Do it by a balance of numbers. That would destroy them.
That’s where they are winning this war. Conservative ideals are now demonized and the young are getting brainwashed. They are close to 100% now. That’s why Jordan Peterson stands out – he’s like an echo from saner times.
They upped the ante recently by enforcing “no platform” (antifa and snowflake campus demands anyone?) – thus being tyrants themselves and acting exactly like the brown shirts of the NAZI regime. If it’s at all possible, they allow no space for a conservative voice to be heard.
Crazy times.
One problem with films, as I read a few years ago, is that independent producers with no ties to a studio have to put up bonds to everybody such as the Hollywod trade unions. These bonds basically have to be enough to cover the entire payroll plus benefits. This has to be done before film is loaded into the camera.
I would love to see some independent films with conservative messages. Nothing to beat anyone over the head — just some uplifting stories that support conservative values.
By design, we live and let live. By design, they protest and agitate. Or in other words, the squeaky wheel wins while we don’t give a damn.
Colleges throughout the country are suffering double digit losses in enrollment. People are noticing the naked political posturing at these institutions and realizing that the product being pushed isn’t the product promised. The costs to sit through a political indoctrination are too great and the the return on investment is smaller and smaller each year. Even employers are starting to see that degrees don’t equal preparation. They may bray loudly about their superiority, but their industries is in serious trouble and they know it.
Those goals are just the means to the end. Once everyone accepts the goals, the country, its people, have no rudder to steer themselves. The Communists come in, take over with the promise of ‘equality of outcome’ for all, then the deadly purges start. Once word of the purges spreads, the rest fall in line, too scared to fight it.

The problem with conservatives playing at the culture conflict, is that conservatism — not “right wing”, not “racist”, not “nationalist”, but “true conservatism” (according to self described “conservatives”) — is held up by rigid studs of “I got mine. F’yall.” There are decorative shelves of compassionate tchotchkes. And, of course, what “mine” “true conservatives” have varies (as a nation, varies wildly). But the argument of first choice, “Mine!”, doesn’t make it an attractive market, to try to sell into. Overlapping markets, like “inspirational books for Christian feminists (and those who won’t confess to the title)” are happy to have conservatives join them — in buying merch to prove to your friends that you really are a member of the club. But targeting actual conservatism, “true conservatives”, is a tax write off, at best, if not an actual money laundering scheme. If some, very small, fraction of the public joins in, well, that’s called “good cover”. But “saving the country from literally Hitler!” will cause millions of people to open their wallets — if only to brag to their friends that they opened their wallets. “Saving the country from literally Stalin!” won’t keep the lights on — that’s not who we are. (And “who we are” can’t be fixed — no matter who you are.)
Conservatives should at least make SOME attempt to counteract the liberal bias that has infiltrated Hollywood, the entertainment industry, academia and the mainstream news media. These institutions undoubtedly play a role in shaping an individual’s politics and whether or not they chose to vote for conservative political candidates. During the 80’s, California and New York were solidly Republican states that voted for Reagan in a landslide, now they’re both one party states run by democrats, and other states are following along the same path. It’s foolish for conservatives to think they’re not behind the eight ball !!!
