Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler claimed that the events on Aug. 17 were “largely peaceful” as video footage showed Antifa and their opponents brawling.
In some cases, the far-left extremist group was reported to have committed unprovoked assaults on people who did not fight back.
“I’m grateful that this was largely a peaceful event,” Wheeler said at a press conference Saturday night as groups of black-clad Antifa members still roamed the city with their faces concealed.
“This was a dynamic event, with demonstrators frequently moving from one part of the city to others, and that made the job even more difficult,” he said. “Police did an exemplary job of deescalating the situation, keeping the extremists on both sides separated for the most part, and preventing people who wanted to engage in acts of violence from confronting each other.”
Portland Police Chief Danielle Outlaw, who has called for an anti-mask law to help police combat masked extremists, said it was “a peaceful event in our beautiful city.” more here
Peaceful if 1. you were out of town. 2. you didn’t get hit by a chunk of concrete. 3. No stitches or clamps were required. Nice.
It may have been ‘largely’ peaceful, compared to prior events. But when your police aren’t stepping in, when they aren’t demanding that protesters remove masks, they aren’t doing their job. And neither is the mayor.
Portland is a shithole and their Police Department is a disgrace.

Peaceful, yes, according to the communist definition of “absence of resistance.”
People wearing masks to conceal their identity usually don’t have peaceful or even legal intentions in mind.
This should be considered probable cause for a stop and search, and that is what should be done to every one of them and having their picture taken to document it.
This would go a long way in preventing the violence.
The demonstrations and counter demonstrations are fine, the violence is not.
When America haters attack America lovers it has been called “peaceful protest” by the MSM for 70 years. Ask anyone still alive who was at Cal in ’64; Not many of us geezers still breath.

Anyone that thinks our police and military won’t do the same thing here that every other police and military did in countries falling under leftists needs to look at Portland…

The Proud Boys should sue Wheeler. They are being denied their civil right to peaceably assemble. The police have the duty to prevent this violence, particularly since it was a Proud Boys rally that was disrupted by Antifa.
